Is Updating iOS 6 Still an Option?

My iPad is currently running iOS 6.0.1. I didn't think about upgrading to 6.1 until after iOS 7 was "forced" on all Apple users. I'm trying to download a few apps but they require at least 6.1. My software update page only lists 7.0.3. Do I have any way to get to 6.1?

  • Not that I'm aware of.

  • I don't believe so. I believe your only option is 7.x.

  • Ugh, drat.

  • If you are able to find a download of 6.1 firmware I believe you can still install it through your computer on iTunes. You have to hold shift, click the restore button (which will allow you to select the firmware you want as opposed to downloading the most recent firmware), select the 6.1 firmware you just downloaded and it should work.

I used to do this with the older iTunes so hopefully it still works with iTunes 11.

  • I was able to find a link to some ios6 firmware files. Hopefully it works for you. Let me know if you need any help with it.

  • Can these be used if you've upgraded to iOS 7?

  • ^^^ I'm with PaulB--I'd like to know too. I'm curious about this--I thought it wasn't possible to be done after Apple updated their servers to only push iOS7......

  • Well, if you have the firmware files, I figure that you don't need Apple to push anything.

  • I doubt you can downgrade. The only case I have seen where a downgrade was possible was with a jailbreak and that was iOS to long ago to remember. You could always try though.

  • Lol. I haven't upgraded yet.

  • I'm satisfied with 7. I was just curious if it was even possible. ;-)

  • Thanks, everybody. Looks like i may jump to 7 when Bias is released since it requires that version anyway.
