Looking for a new synth, but I'm picky :)
Hey everyone, figured I would ask here in case I missed something on the Apple store the last few months. Long story short, I'm looking for a new synth app to dive into and really learn inside and out. But most of the ones I've tried, while good at certain things, just don't have the depth I want, or an interface I like using.
Ideally I'm looking for something like say Zebra2 for iOS. A modern UI, NOT modeling a specific analog synth, a decent mod matrix or at least flexible programming options, and of course it must be compatible with Audiobus. Maybe someone out there has a suggestion that might fit what I want?
Here's my current stable:
Animoog - Good interface ideas, but still has a sort of specific "vintage" sound.
Alchemy - Great sounds, bu not that much flexibility in shaping the sounds specifically the way you want. iOS keeps deleting my IAP bundles overnight too, grrr.
Nave - So close to ideal in terms of sound and flexibility, but I HATE the interface so much. Reminds me of a built in Logic synth, too much clutter, too many "close" buttons.
Thor - Perfect, but those white bars that pop up to show knob positions are as distracting as can be. I can never get JUST the value I want, even when dragging it way to one side. Seriously those white bars are the dumbest idea ever.
Sunrizer - Great sound and UI, wish there were more mod and routing options.
Modular (and Audulus) - Fun for patching sessions, but making anything I'd want to use in a song takes ages. TOO open ended.
iMS20, iMini, iPoly6, etc - Great sound, but I want more than analog emulations.
I'm sure there's more I have that I'm forgetting at the moment.
Any other ideas? I know it's rather open-ended, but just for some other options to check out. Thanks!

Arturia ISEM and Cube Synth are my two favorites at the moment.
This might not be the recommendation you are looking for, but nevertheless it was not mentioned in your post. I find myself consistently going to iSEM, loading a preset, making the smallest tweak, and winding up with something amazing.
iSEM - highly recommended.
I know it's an emulator, and that's not what you're after, but I find it to be just unreal. I'm sure someone else has a suggestion that is closer to what you are looking for. And for what it's worth, the TF7 is a beast with a killer UI.
I was going to mention exactly those three apps - iSEM, Cube Synth, and TF7. The best ones in months!
Thanks everyone, off to a good start I see! Keep 'em coming, making a list to look into tomorrow.
I forgot I had Addictive as well, which I see is by the same people as Cube...
Have you considered WaveMapper or WaveGenerator? Both are powerful wave sequencing synths, not analog emulating. WaveMapper is the easier of the two to use.
Also Addictive Synth, Cube, or Crystal are possibilities...
P.S. Every synth I mentioned sounds good too. :-)
I forgot about the PPG synths, another good avenue to look into again.
Oh yeah, WaveMapper is amazing!
after stating what you were after - i would've suggested Nave. But you have it already ...
I picked up iSem a couple weeks ago and have been very happy with it - but I have a feeling it may not be exactly what you're going for. (still, worth every penny at 9.99).
Maybe I would suggest Arctic Keys Pro? I almost went with that over iSem ... flexible mod routing from what i can tell - and it's not going after a typical 'vintage analog' modelled sound, more of a modern analog sound. There's a youtube demo by one of the sound developers that goes through the first 33 sounds worth checking out.
I would say based on what you want Cube Synth because you can get crazy in depth with it especially when you hit the second page "ENV"
TF7 is a nice FM Synth with several different "paths" to chose from before you dive into tweaking.
iSem is nice but an emulation...
I'd also say Cube Synth or Arctic Pro Synth. iSEM is really great, but it is, after all, 'modeling a specific analog synth'...
Cube Synth probably is the more versatile of the two, and its interface does not resemble any hardware synth, making good use of the touch interface.
.
What about Eden? Great modulation matrix, good synth, basic sample playback, reasonable controllers, you can stack 15 of them at once and you also get Nanostudio.
Yes, Eden is a great synth, it has a totally original sound too, sound like nothing else in hardware or software, cones with some amazing presets..also NLog is very cool and xan also be used in the FX Slot....not to forget iMini and Magellen..both cool...Magellen in particular as its not an emulation and free preset banks can be found everywhere for it...plus you may find the depth you are looking for..I would take a close look at Magellen first, check out You Tube...
I think iSEM is the new hype nowadays but it deserves it, Magellan is awesome too.
Synths for the iPad are generally so ridiculously cheap, most of us can afford a little trial and error.
With that being said, no need to be picky!
Thanks everyone for the suggestions. For me it's not so much an issue of money as time. I have a very specific project in mind for this synth, and at the moment I don't have time spend a week with a ton of different synths. Just trying to narrow it down to 1 or 2 I don't have yet, which I've done thanks to all your recommendations. Thanks!
Eden having four syncable LFOs is part of its magic. I wish you could assign it detune but you can assign it to most everything else.
Magellan is also a great choice. Tons of depth, tons and tons of available presets. Plus, effects a lot!
Both Eden and Magellan are deep but very accessible synths.
Awesome, thanks!
