I can’t get it to change to the subdued screen display . What do I need to change. It says subdued in the global settings?
Now I need to find some tutorials to remember what I did and how I did it with this app.
Any links or suggestions?
Or how about what do you use it for?
Anyone?
Just dive in! I'd not used this for a while because of the display issues on iPad Pro, but it sounds fantastic! Check out some of the sample patterns and sounds, and use those as a jumping off point.
The eq seems to be brokken on ipad pro 13’ - the q( the little diamond shape) can’t be moved.
Crashing when pasting a sample from Audiopaste, although you can still load samples using iTunes.
This
@NTKK
@excesseye
I noticed those bugs too, i forwarded it to the dev.
Thanks. I also contacted hIm re. the audiopaste issue.
You have to close the app after selecting subdued and open it again for this change to happen. Not sure why but it has always worked like this.
Nice to see some activity from the dev, I didn't think this was going to get another update!
Would be great to see Link support in the future..
Bout to give this a go finally. I’ll trust that eq issue gets fixed
Definitely ACP issue on Air 2, but no problem with diamond in EQ (they move up and down like they should, circles moving side-to-side)
Still doesn’t seem to work though, even after reopening.
Confirmed this. I kinda dug the wacky colors for a bit but grew tired
I wonder if anyone here who has both Stroke Machine and Groove Rider would care to compare the two? Maybe I could overlook the GUI if the engine runs nice.

Groove rider: Sampler with some synth ability and most notably onboard parameter sequencing.
Stroke machine: the deepest drumsynth on iOS world with very little sampling abilities and 4 fox-bus
I think stroke machine actually has some really strong drum sampler features (the modulations and randomization of sample position and pitch eg, complex and really snappy envelopes, transient designer on samples is a great feature,...), but it misses eg multisampling (allthough it has two samples per sound) and recording or slicing as eg beatmaker. I don’t really know if groove rider has any of this? But it seems to me that groove rider has a fast (perhaps a bit simpler) workflow, which can be an advantage depending on your needs.
I updated to check if this was an iOS 11 thing @soundshaper @oat_phipps
Got the trippy interface here now also!
The app used to pop up with text telling you to restart it for the graphical change to happen, this is no longer the case.
Yep, no subdued (sub-dude, lol) theme after the update on Air 2 either.
Maybe it's because I'm in a better place mentally now than when I first bought this one but I found myself enjoying the crazy colour scheme today!
I ended up preferring it as well. Had heard from dev or someone it had been designed for using in darkened club or stage venues, or in my case when my lovely bride is asleep beside me in the darkened bedroom venue.
@Littlewoodg I think it’s good advertising of Mr Franke. Everyone can tell what app you are using from the reflection on your face
The Stroke Machine 2.0.9 update immediately crashed upon launch with the same behavior on a delete and reinstall on an iPad Air 2 on iOS 12.1.
I have the same experience. I sent Mr. Franke an email. I expect to hear back tomorrow as it's late in Germany right now.
iPad Pro 9.7 iOS 12.1
Same here, iPad Pro 10.5
I wrote the man, who is very cool
[email protected]
I wrote him three times and did not get a single response.
Stroke machine is definitely broken on later iOS versions.
Apart from the un-changeable skin and crashes, I got audio issues yesterday: Notes either not playing from the internal keyboard or playing with a 1..3 second delay!
Is Mr Franke another developer that one can only reach over twitter/facebook/whatever?
I’ve only needed email, and he’s always responded - different strokes I guess
Both complement each other I would say.
Groove Rider has more powerful oscillators but Stroke Machine has an insanely powerful and really usable modulation matrix, including FM and RM with samples.
GR has much better and editable automation but SM has easy & quick MIDI CC learn for most synth, mixer and fx parameters.
GR has 16 identical waveform/wavetable/sample/slicing/FM etc. 4-voice polyphonic sound engines, while SM has 12 drum tracks and 12 synth tracks that all have the same sound engine with unlimited (except by cpu) polyphony but differ in their sequencer (x0x style vs piano roll). Slicing and wavetable synthesis is only possible in GR.
GR has a limited piano roll editor that takes time to operate while SM has a conventional piano roll that is not limited to max. 4 notes polyphony or forces all notes at one start position to have the same length and velocity.
Both apps can run in sync with external hardware and can be controlled from it.
I find both easy to use, it's just a matter of a little bit getting-used-to.
Both are laid out quite "logically" although I know that judging about it can be a very subjective matter
Damn. I need to remember to come here before installing any updates! I just reflexively hit ‘update’. Ugh.
Heard back from the developer and he’s already on the case. Emailing him your crash log data will help him to figure out what’s going on..
Update is live. *Fixed crash at startup
