Fix for New IOS Garargeband Bug
Hi everyone. Just wanted to share a solution to a bug I’ve been encountering quite often in Garageband IOS since the last update.
Sometimes during recording or playback one of the tracks simply mutes itself inexplicably. The worst part is that depending on how many tracks I’m working with and the significance of what’s on said track, I might not notice at first which has led to wasted time for various reasons. For example, endlessly tweaking a multi-part vocal harmony only to realize that the reason it sounds off is that one of the parts has been inexplicably muted. Until recently the only way I could fix it is to close and reopen the song, sometimes many times.
I finally found a simpler “fix”. While the song is playing with the erroneously muted track, drag a different track (or portion) away from its rightful spot then hit the undo arrow to put it back where it was. Somehow doing this causes the problem track to unmute itself and all is normal again.
Comments
Note- the erroneously muted track doesn’t appear muted, it just is. It’s not greyed out as it would be if you muted it intentionally.
Interesting. I have this problem on a current track I’ll give it a go. Thanks
Let me know if it works!
Of course now the track wants to behave
But if it happens again I’ll remember this trick
Yes, of course. That’s cool, keep me posted if you run into this situation again. Thanks.
It was believed that this problem was related to AU effects, and was discussed in another thread, I believe. This has had developers and users alike scratching their heads in frustration and bewilderment. This news may be useful in tracking down the problem. @brambos @j_liljedahl
For reference, here is the other thread discussing a similar problem: https://forum.audiob.us/discussion/23790/au-effects-render-problems-in-gb/p1
That’s a different issue. The issue in this thread is more related to an intermittent bug with the mute state of a given track in GarageBand
Arrggh!!! More bugs!!!!!
I’m finding GB very stable these days. I’ve learned to minimize the use of 3rd party plugins. If given a chance the insert effects are quite effective, keyboard synths cover 99% of the sounds I enjoy. Drums are almost there too.
Some stuff like effects automation would really come in handy but there are workarounds in the interim.
I had an issue like that once with GB where a track would stop playing and would do so until I opened the Track section involved to edit it, move a note and back or delete it and undo, and it would be fine. Hasn’t occurred in a long time, though.
Yes, I had this issue. Also, on opening a project, I noticed all tracks got unmuted even though some were muted in the saved project. On another project, some audio tracks and some parts in the Drummer stopped working even though they are highlighted as selected and nothing fixed it. Yet, on another project, the Glissando/Scroll/Pitch button is GONE - and gone from all new projects on instruments such as SciFi. And many more issues reported to Apple. See:
