[OT] App Store - More expensive to complete a bundle?
I was reminded of Ribbons by Olympia Noise Co, and realized it was the only app of theirs I don’t have. Noticed it was available as part of their app bundle, but when I clicked on the bundle, it was going to cost more to compete the bundle than to buy the app stand alone. Anyone know why this is? How does bundle pricing work? Had a similar situation with the iMPC Pro 2 bundle, where I didn’t get the full value of what I paid for iMPC Pro taken off the price of the new version.
Is there a bug in the bundle system, or are there other things going on?

Is the app store that is phucked.
Namely when I bought this bundle I was charged for full price where I already had 3 apps out of 4.
Moreover I recognize loads of apps I already owned being at full price.
Apple really should get their shit together
Yes, it used to be that the bundle would be reduced in actual price by the amount of the apps you already have. However when I bought a bundle a few months ago it charged me full price. This was after they “improved” the App Store with the iOS launch. I haven’t touched a bundle since.
"Complete My Bundle" pricing is based the current bundle price minus what you have actually spent on the apps in that bundle. It isn't weighted to the relative cost of the apps, only the total amount you've spent vs. the current price. So, if you buy apps on sale, but try to complete the bundle when everything is at the regular, higher price, the "Complete My Bundle" price will likely be a worse option.
e.g. A bundle has 4 apps, each $5. The bundle sells for $15. Here if you bought 3 apps at full price you could complete your bundle for free.
But say you bought 3 of the apps on sale for $3 each and at that sale time the bundle price was $10. You could complete your bundle for $1, but you don't and later, when the prices have gone back to $5 and the bundle to $15, you want to get the last app. At this point your "Complete My Bundle" price would be $6 for the last app even though you could buy it individually for $5, as the bundle is $15, but you've only spent $9 towards that total.
Except it doesn’t seem to work that way reliably any more. I owned three of four apps in a bundle, and paid full price for them. I bought the bundle to see if I would save anything on the last app and was charged the full price of the bundle $8.99 instead of $1.99, just as if I didn’t own any of the apps.
Something changed, at least in my experience.
Did any of you guys try for a refund, and if so, how did that go?
Is there a way to see what an app you currently own costs so you can compare to what you paid? I paid ¥1200 for Patterning but don’t know what it currently costs. I know Apple increased prices for all JP apps a few years ago to reflect the exchange rate when yen was really strong... funny how it never changed back when yen got weak again![:) :)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
I had to track the invoices for the other purchases but it went well.
That is good to hear.![:) :)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
I received a refund on the bundle, and thankfully that didn’t kill the existing apps I had purchased separately, though I thought it might. I then bought the remaining app separately. So no loss. But I don’t like doing refund requests as I figure some point system is at work in the background and could result in refused refunds in the future.
I noticed that the Bud Bundle AuV3 MIDI is a lot more than just purchasing each app separately. Most confusing… and I do wish there was a Bud Everything bundle cause I am inexorably moving in that direction:)
Try scrolling all the way down and then back up to the top in the App Store page for the bundle. Sometimes this re-calculates the price.
However, it's still often the case that a bundle will be more than the remaining unowned apps separately. This is because Apple calculates the total of the current price for all the plugins, not what you paid for them before calculating the "discount". Most of us have taken advantage of intro prices or sales on some of the apps. They only credit back what you actually paid for those apps against the total.
In a bundle of four apps currently priced $10 individually, Apple makes the total $40 and applies the bundle discount. If you bought three apps at $2 intro pricing, they only give you credit for $6, not $30.
It's such a weird way of thinking that I really hurts my brain. But it's always been that way.
I’ve occasionally purchased an app to complete a bundle and gotten it for free. I think it really depends on how the developer has set up their bundle.
I've never heard that one before. Interesting.
If you got one on sale at some point that happens too
I've done it twice
Had velocity keyboard for a minute, wanted their velocity filter, saw bundle, Complete Bundle Free option. Clicked, velocity filter installed on device, no fee
I think Digisticks 1&2 was the other (went to grab 2 on a discount, got it, then checked the bundle, 'complete for free' and it did)
That's different from what we're talking about here. @NeuM is saying (I think) that rather than purchasing the bundle, they purchased the remaining app they didn't have separately ... and got it for free. That, I haven't heard of before.
Oh OHHHHH. I'm sorry, missed that little caveat of hitting Pay
My bad 😅
When I got my free app it was after my prior purchases were eventually offered as a bundle and I guess the cost I had paid for the original Fabfilter apps covered the cost of the last one, which was the Twin 3.
My memory is a bit fuzzy about the other one. I think it may have been a similar bundle situation but I don’t remember from which developer… possibly from Jorge Reales or from Fred Anton Corvest, but I’m not sure.
