Virsyn Microtera glitches?
It seems microtera is causing glitches due to cpu spikes, eg in AUM at 256 buffer settings (cpu jumping from 15% to 250%), when its’s the only app opened. This would be my most ‘glitchy’ synth. This is unusable as I haven’t seen this behaviour with some other heavier apps installed (see eg layer, ppg apps, model 15 etc..)
I’m using it on last years ipad Pro. Maybe this is due to ios 11 compatibility issues? Anyone seeing similar issues?
Comments
I will test it
In audiiobus or aum or stand alone?
I was using it this morning with no issue at all. IPad Pro -2015 iOS 11.2.5
@charleso
Yep a bit crunchy in AUM standalone at 256, less so at 512
microTERA has always been demanding, I tend to run everything as “big” as this one and Cube, and several others (Model 15, Z3ta+, come to mind) at 512 or even higher, just cause it’s ios and I’m on Air 2. I don’t know the actual tech, but some synths are more demanding, maybe it’s a fault of optimization. Same thing happens when I’m running lots of apps at once (complex AB3 setups that include sequencer, midi plugins and a few instruments. Crunch. More and more I resort to older software or one-at -a-time track building.
@RUST( i )K happens mostly as iaa within aum
@mschenkel.it are you using higher buffer settings within AUM?
@Littlewoodg I think its unusual for an app to average on 15% on AUM’s cpu meter, while having those glitches/spikes, which makes me believe it could be an optimization problem. But did you see this also on previous versions of IOS?
Thanks for your quick responses!
I wonder also if this is similar for the Tera app.
Have to check but probably it was at higher buffer setting. Didn’t thought bout that
"I don't know the tech. I just do"...
LOL
But I like the sound. Unlike a lot of other synths. You can hear those digits dance! The glitches appear when using the app as IAA and while having it opened on screen. Runs ok within AUM when in the background. But I’m not sure if it’s reliable enough for live use.
Does anyone know if Tera has the same waveshaping engine included? And if it runs smoother?
Love the sound, wild and digital
Yep along with a “Partials” oscillator, Tera has a Waveshaper oscillator, called “Custom Wave” in the osc menu (Tera kinda has them all) and runs smooth
To do what microTERA does you’d likely set up Tera’s 3 osc to be three partials or custom waves, or whatever combination, then set up the same modulations as they appear in mT...that was the origin of microTERA when it was first a VST, focusing on only one of the millionty synthesis options contained in Tera. I think the 32 bit VST microTERA is floating around the web somewheres but I don’t think Virsyn sells it anymore.
