Who likes iMono/Poly? I do!

Here's a track that I made in Gadget using only Montpellier synths - and a Recife. A bit of a departure for me - not my usual chilled downtempo electronic - more of a deep melodic techno style I think you'd call it. I'm super happy with the results.

I picked up iMono/Poly a few weeks ago and I think it's probably my fav iOS synth - edging out both Model 15 and zeeon - probably cause I can use it inside Gadget. I found it very inspiring and over the course of 3 weeks have come up with several song ideas using it as the basis of my tracks.

  • Hi there Halftone. I dig your track, very smooth and love the easy groove. I'm a sucker for those walking tempo tunes. :-)

I too just got iMono/Poly and haven't had much of a play with it yet, but am very impressed by it. It is one of those synths that the moment you open it up (or at least for me) I just felt, "yeah, this has something special". I think it will find it's way into my tunes as well. The Gadget thing is icing!

Monopoly is great because it’s lightweight and very analog sounding. Also the UI is easy to understand and tweak. The randomiser really helps too. I’ve been getting a lot just out of a handful of presets. As a child of the 80s and 90s this synth brings back a lot of fond memories.

By the way impressive song. I take it you sequenced it in Gadget?

Hey thanks @kinkujin - looks like you went into the wayback machine to find this track! Back when I posted this track, I was going through my initial love-affair phase with imonopoly. I made several songs in Gadget using mostly just imonopoly over the course of about 2 months - still have a few sitting in dropbox that I need to polish up/mix and release someday.

And I need to go back to this synth too! It's been awhile since I've used it - too many other shiny new apps lately it seems.

  • As of today, I just haven’t found the secret sauce in iMonoPoly. Saying that, it took me an age to fall in love with Zeeon ;)

I hear ya, much as I appreciate the nice analogue sound of Zeeon, I haven't really connected with that synth as much as many people here. No denying it's a great synth though

  • I'm always not connecting with synths because I buy too many of them. It's stupid. I need to be retired to get the time I so richly don't deserve, but I'm too young. So, I'll just keep buying great synths that I don't have time for.

That being said, I am trying to be more judicious with my purchases. I just could not pass up this sale. And I'm glad I didn't.

I like the song a lot.

  • It may be daunting for a beginner, but for a synthhead like me, it's a godsend, especially in the Gadget environment. It's like Wolfsburg on 'roids with the addition of cross synthesis for good measure. The presets it has are also pretty great just in case you aren't a synthhead, so there's that to consider.

Then again, I'm biased towards the Gadget environment, and since it isn't an AU, you may be better off with Sunrizer and Zeeon as well as Poison 202 for synths.

  • You guys are all lying! I'm happy with iPolysix! Don't need no more polys from Korg!
(my way to try resisting temptation)

  • Me too and check this video from Espen Kraft featuring the Mono/Poly
(There's a link to free samples there too) :)

  • I also appreciate the two multi fx slots. Plus the fact that fx can be modulated gives nice sound design options.
For instance, modulating the sample rate (decimator effect) with note number gives that old school sampler vibe to a sound.

As with ODYSSEi, I just wish user sounds would be shared with Gadget. Since I don’t wanna do long sounddesign sessions in Gadget cause of the cpu/battery issue.
That how I do it with iWavestation, create sounds in standalone and open in Milpitas.

Indeed, now imagine if Korg made a 'Sampler App/Gadget' with the same amount of modulation control :)
(Take the iM1 architecture, add option to use user-samples and throw in a mod-matrix and boom).
