Microphone suggestions for iOS?
I’m looking at getting a mic for my iPad. I have a LaunchPad Pro as well. Both devices are connected to the Novation Audio Hub.
What are some good mic options that won’t break the bank? Would be cool if the mic would work with both iOS and regular XLR connections. Thanks for the help!

The Novation Audio Hub doesn't appear to have phantom power, which limits the options to dynamic microphones only. And a USB mic probably won't work at the same time as the Audio Hub (iOS only accepts one interface at a time).
You could get something like a Shure SM58, the only issue being whether there will be enough clean gain in your interface to make it useable.

I’m looking at the Novation 2x4 and don’t see an XLR input. Looks like USB ports and RCA inputs. Is that right?
Yes, no XLR inputs on the Audio Hub. I bought it mostly to connect my iPad to MIDI devices, plus get a strong balanced output when gigging.
Instruments or vocals? Stage or studio or field/mobile use?
So, there’s the rub. You’re not going to be able to use the 2x4 and a USB mic at the same time. You don’t have an XLR input for the mic either, so this is a no-go situation.
You either need to get a USB mic plugged into a regular USB hub with no other audio device inputs, or a different USB audio interface with an XLR input (and possibly phantom power depending on the mic).
You can connect any number of USB midi devices such as your launchpad, but can only have one USB audio device operating at a time.

You'll likely need a small mixer. Behringer xenyx 502 is small and works well but has no phantom power.
There's quite a few small mixers around though.
I have a Yamaha AG03 mixer connected to my Mac. It has an XLR input and is iPad/iPhone friendly. Wonder if I can connect that to the 2x4 hub too.
Not sure about your budget, and it looks like you might need a new interface. As mentioned above, you can’t go wrong with a Shure SM58 for a dynamic. I’ve also read very good things about the Blue Yeti Pro, which is a USB and dual XLR condenser mic.

Not sure where you’re located, but I bought a modded MXL condenser from from this guy in the states about 3 or 4 years ago. He does excellent work, and I haven’t felt the need for another condenser since.

Should work no problem, unless you are planning to use USB for this? If so I don't think that's possible.
Phantom power will give you more microphones to choose from and the onboard effects on the AG range are surprisingly good!
If it works in a non usb mode than yes. If it is usb only then you’ll again have the issue of iOS only recognising one interface at a time.
I just had a look at it on google images. Yeah it should work. Looks like a well featured little box. It also has quite a few different out connectors: 2x mono jacks, rca, small jack, you’re bound to have a lead to make it work. It actually might be a great audiohub companion.
What are you wanting to use the mic for? You can't go wrong with an sm57 for recording pretty much any instrument and they're decent for vocals too. Or you could buy an sm58 and just take the grille off and you've got a 57 (almost).
I'm just looking for an all-purpose mic for home recording on my Mac and iPad. For gigs, we hire sound & light companies who takes care of that stuff.
