Summary:
Some issues introduced lately into the wonderful GarageBand app are diminishing its value. Apple Team - please do more testing of your apps before releasing them.

The Glissando/Scroll/Pitch button is GONE from some instruments for NO reason on iPad Air 2 with iOS 11.2.5! Try Grand Piano or Fifties Sci-Fi instruments and the GSP button is gone. Projects saved with instruments set to Glissando still play in glissando mode (even though the GSP button is missing) but there is NO way to set newly added instruments to Glissando mode as they are defaulted to Pitch and the GSP button is missing.

In Drummer, if I select Tambourine, Shaker or Clap - these do NOT sound after a while of composing the song and using GB - even though these individual items show as selected. Trying to unselect and re-select these items or closing/re-opening the project or duplicating the project do not work either. Not sure how many other individual drum items are not sounding after some time like the above ones.

Some instruments are showing the SAME octave keys on dual keyboards with NO way to set the upper keyboard to a higher octave than the one under it. Switching to next/previous octave scrolls both keyboards and giving us exact, same octaves! What is the use of 2 keyboards having the same octave keys??

At times, switching to Major, Pentatonic and going back to None, MESSES up the keyboard layouts on dual keyboards.

Alchemy synth - please release all sound packs/presets of Alchemy for those who PURCHASED them in-app in Alchemy Mobile app before it got acquired by Apple. For instance, I have purchased several sound packs - Big Tone, Dance Trance, Cinematic, etc from Came Audio who made the Alchemy Mobile app but the synth (now discontinued by Apple and incorporated inside GB) includes only a few of its sound presets.

The new Beat Sequencer has flashy, candy colors that make it look CHEAP and not in sync with the colors of the rest of the app. What were you thinking? Whose brilliant ideas was it?? Just stick with the cool and soft colors of GB and you are golden.

While playing back a recording, the keyboard/drums/etc do not ANIMATE the played keys and so we end up staring at a DUMB keyboard that does NOTHING - does not show which keys/notes are being played from the song. How difficult is it to animate keys/pads/etc? The currently played keys should animate as depressed/highlighted as the song is playing. Just look at Cubasis, FL Studio Mobile, etc - their keys animate during playback. Apple could do MUCH BETTER with animation! Keyboard animation could be used in tutorial videos.

Suddenly, some audio tracks stop playing. I had to close the project and reopen to make them play.

Songs created on my iPad Air 2 are showing as available on iCloud but not LOCALLY on iPad and I have to download them?? These were created on my iPad to begin with in the first place and how come they do not exist on my device but in iCloud? Do I have to download the 300+ MB project from iCloud chewing up my data plan every time I want to open my project? This is ridiculous!

Stop saving songs for NO reason while closing them when there are no changes made to it. Even if I make some changes and UNDO all of those changes, the song should not be saved when I close the project because there really are NO changes! Saving on closing a project is messing up my last modified dates of the project as it is moved all the way to the top of the list and pushing my other new projects to the bottom and it is annoying. What's more concerning is that these unmodified/saved 300+ MB files are getting uploaded to iCloud each time they are closed - chewing up my data plan!

No Project name is displayed and we are at a loss to know which project we are working on. The only way to know it is by closing the project (which also saves the project for NO reason even if no changes were made to it and move it to the top of the list). At the least, display the name of the project in the Settings popup.

Auto-scrolling in playback mode in sequencer/track-view is not available once it is disturbed (touch/move the screen with our finger). We have to stop and restart the playback to get the auto-scrolling back. See Cubasis...

Screen Recording in iOS 11 lacks the feature to record Finger Taps. Seriously??
This is very useful in demo and tutorial videos. Currently, the video viewers do not know where we are tapping on the screen. Every screen capture app has this feature (even on Android). This is a simple feature you grossly missed to implement.

Screen-Recording in iOS has pops and stalls in the video at times.

MIDI Out, MIDI In is a challenge and need to use Midiflow app to make it work -
even in 2018. Come on, Apple!! Please build these features into GB "already" and make it easy and simple to connect to other apps. Please publish virtual MIDI ports so we can connect to other apps.

Offer GB and Alchemy Synth as Audio Units to connect with other apps.

After modifying the length of an audio track, I lost all changes!

After duplicating a Project, the original project on the top cannot be opened by tapping on it. Duplicate project file opens fine.

After opening a project, all tracks got unmuted even though some tracks were muted in the saved project.

No way to create a loop in the arranger to play a section/region in loop mode.

Expand the Mixer in arranger, enter piano roll in edit mode, exit edit mode - Mixer collapses in arranger.

Favorites - this feature is implemented on Loops but not in Presets. Please provide a Favorites bank in Presets as well.

Also, please provide a 1-5 star Rating feature on presets and loops and offer filters to search by rating including (new) UNRATED ones as well.

WiFi server - provide a local WiFi server to connect to desktop using a browser.

Provide a feature to export to MP3 as M4A is not a universal format and does not work on Android, etc. If we want to quickly email a song to a buddy, we need to export to M4A and then convert it to MP3 using other tools on the desktop. How dumb is that! This is a pain in the butt.

Single-screen layout - may not be possible with Live Loops, Beat Sequencer but please add a button to the toolbar on the top - tapping on which would display a dropdown of the Mixer (that we find on the left in track view). We can simply tap on a track in the Mixer dropdown to change the track of the keyboard/synth right from the Keyboard area without having to switch to track view, tap on a different track and get back to keyboard to change the track (Similar to NanoStudio track dropdown). That's too many taps. The usability of an app depends on the length of tap-path or click-path. Fewer taps - better UX.

Fractional Tempo values - Currently, GB has only whole integer tempo values such as 130, 131, 132, etc. If we want something like 92.3, its not possible and this is a pain while recording at half speeds of fast songs (slow recording) that are at odd tempos like 85 BPM or 133 BPM - when we set the BPM to half to record slowly, it results in fractions such as 42.5, 67.5, etc. and GB doesn't have fractional tempos while all other DAW apps support fractional tempos.

Song Templates similar to FL Studio Mobile templates.

On drum tracks, offer to quickly place 4-on-the-floor beats, snare, hi/lo hats, etc.

Optimize for Performance - this can be made "on-demand" instead of mandatory on opening a project which is annoying and time-wasting. Users would tap a button to optimize performance on demand when needed. Simple.

    I think this feature should have a toggle so that it can be used as needed. I find it useful when listening to a take in the piano-roll view so that when I hear something 'off' I can immediately stop the notes and look for the one that is early or late, In other apps I have to take my eyes off the notes to find a small 'stop' button and then try to go back and find the note. In GB I find this 'pause' of the visuals quite handy. However I have only created 2 songs in GB and won't likely create many more, so it is a mute point for me.

    It would be nice if Apple actually listened to feedback in posts on this forum, although I tend to doubt it. I think there has already been much complaining about the mangled shadow-of-its-former-self synth called 'Alchemy' in GB. I think it is the saddest story in iOS music apps, and I doubt that Apple will ever offer the app as it once was. I don't understand why Apple felt they had to cripple Alchemy so much, but in general GB doesn't exactly give us full featured anything. With GB you have to play with Apple's toys they way they want you to or go find another sandbox to play in.

    Also, added this to the bug list:

    Selecting multiple Notes in edit mode and setting their Velocity in bulk does not work for all the notes. This should set the specified velocity to all the selected notes like any other DAW app does. Setting velocity on each note is tedious and a coding deficiency (bug).

  • I think the list is solid. But as a neutral bystander, may I suggest to write these kind of reports with a tad less sarcasm and a slightly more constructive tone-of-voice? Imagine working on the other side and reading your report... how willing would you be to help out? A little empathy generally goes a long way to getting stuff done for you. :)

    It's a quite a bad idea to report so much. This does not go well with the Apple ticket system. My advice:

    One issue - one report.

    Thank you for all of your effort! AFAIK Apple "counts" feedback from the customer. That means: The more reporting an issue is having, the more important it is.

    Sometimes it needs 30 reports to trigger action (we can call this behavior: "big-company-syndrome").

  • It had a 3000 char-limit in the description per ticket but it was actually accepting like only 1200-1500 chars due to some glitch (LOL :smiley:). And so, I ended up submitting them in multiple parts - a total of 4 tickets covering them all.

    I think Apple looks at App Store reviews as well - especially those that have 3 star rating or less.

    I think their GB team is actively involved in pushing its boundaries from the way it is apparent from their frequent releases of more and more power features such as Drummer, Live Loops, Beat Sequencer, FX, Sound Library, etc. and hope they would look at bug reports in the best interests of their app. If they don't pay attention to bug reports by users and do not innovate, some other competing DAW app would crush GB and they know that very well.

    GarageBand iOS does not have export as MIDI. Please provide this option so we could share with others or use it in another tool, etc.

    Bug # 42639159 - GarageBand iOS - Keyboard Pitch mode missing for Audio Units
    When we add a Audio Unit to a track inside GB on iOS, the Keyboard Pitch mode is missing to play with Vibrato. This mode is available for some built-in instruments but not external AU instruments. Please provide this Keyboard Pitch mode for AUs so we could play EXPRESSIVELY using GB's keyboard. For instance, we can play expressively in iFretless Bass app using sounds from another apps' instruments.

    (Android just sucks at detecting the content on files and is _very_ dependent on 'file extension' for the identification and well, I stay away from Android as much as I possibly can).

    I've yet not gotten any reply on being able to edit the recorded automation from the touch-instruments in GarageBand. Who knows, maybe iOS12 will bring a new GarageBand update as well :)

    Do you encounter undo/redo bug? This drives me nuts, on complex projects especially with AU’s, undo don’t works. Have sent mail to their support but didn’t receive answers. I could buy an iPad and get Cubasis just because of that fu..ng bug!! Waiting for 6 months to 1 year for a bug to be fixed is too much.

    Yep, there are many other bugs in GB. It sucks when they break something that was working fine before.

    if they were renamed to *.MP3 :smile: However, users cannot rename a file attached to an email on their mobile device without first downloading it. Not sure if they have a file system access on their devices. And some users are not savvy how to rename a file or know it works by renaming it.
