My New Track Featuring Samples from The Cars

Curious what you guys and gals think of this track. It’s a bit raw, not a finished product, but you’ll get the idea. Produced 100% on my iPhone. I’m new to sampling, wondering what you think of my first attempt? All and any thoughts, opinions, critiques greatly appreciated!

  • I like the vibe and beat but the lead lines seem a bit lost in the mix to me, probably needs an instrument that differentiates itself a bit more. The breakdown at 1:24 is nice, simple but effective.

I am listening on crappy laptop speakers though .... nice effort generally.

Thanks for listening and replying. I agree 100% about the lead getting lost in the mix. Honestly, that’s essentially just a placeholder for what will eventually be a live guitar lead track. Hopefully that will cut through better.

the mix is quite scooped, which means you have deep bass and emphasized highs, but an attentuated midrange, low mids almost absent.
The panning is wide, but rather flat with limited sound staging and ambience.
Really not bad for a 1st attempt - and take comfort in the fact that you hit just 2 of the most common traps in IOS-only music production.
It's quite challenging to get these things setup properly without any help from a desktop DAW.

  • I enjoyed it. Yes, could be tweaked here and there to refine the mix but good first attempt. Keep at it!
