funkdrummer midi into desktop addicive drums

Hello,
as Dough Johns would say Im a midiot. I love to make patterns/songs with the Louis Martinez Apps. But what i realize is that in the windows world are much better Drumsounds than in ios. I dont have the energy and time to learn a desktop- DAW. I grabbed my teeth into Auria pro and it works for me. I think it must be possible to trigger f.e. standalone Addicitive drums 2 on desktop by Funk drummer , xequence or something else . The second wish is to record this to auria simultaniously. What interface do I need to do this? (focusrite or iconnectivity? ( which should have problems with windows, i read; Second problem I see for me is how to root this).
Any suggestions?

  • Have you tried FunkDrummer triggering DrumPerfect Pro? And therefore staying on iOS?

  • Yes, i tried. But the sounds are not up to These sounds in Desktop. Even processed with fabfilters et c. they don‘t come close. ( excuse me Marinus ;-))

  • That’s fair enough. How about using other samples in DPP?

  • Don‘t know how yet. Is stereo possible?

  • Didn‘t try yet. I think thats not easy. Have to read the manual. Is stereo possible?

  • Not sure about stereo, except that you can position each hit on the stereo spectrum. I couldn’t find a decent cajon on iOS so made my own in DPP using samples I found on desktop. It takes time but once done it’s always there.
The other option, if you use Auria Pro is replacing the sounds with Drumagog?
It’s all a bit of hard work but i’ve tended to stay on iOS, as putting it together with a desktop has it’s own issues.

  • To be honest I've been wanting to do this myself. I just haven't gotten around to doing it yet. All you'd need is to reassign the midi funkdrummer is sending out to be the ones that addictive needs. I'm not going to be anywhere near my PC for the next 2 week so will be a while before I can do it myself. Hopefully someone can help you out with exactly what midi notes it needs :)

  • The notes won‘ t be a problem. But what interface that routes the desktops audio back to auria pro?

    Studiomux..

  • Yes, just read about that. This could be the solution

The round trip latency for studiomux is quite a buzzkill for this use case Imho. The Ica4+ is significantly faster.

But no matter what you'd still hit latency. Personally I use the Ica4+ to send the iOS audio into separate channels in ableton and vsts in my desktop daw so there is barely any latency.

Sending midi from iOS=>PC and then audio from pc=>iOS will at minimum be around 20-30ms latency best case. It's much faster to send stuff in a single direction. So seauenve the drums on the desktop daw, Use ableton link to sync both iOS and desktop daw and record into AUM. AUM will record each segment into neatly cut bars. Then export into Auria. This method might work with studiomux as well but you will still have to do minor adjustments in Auria to account for 13-15 Ms latency in the recordings.

Latency was always the issue. Plus fixing things that didn’t quite work. In the end I chose the ‘get it all into iOS, whatever it takes’ option, and to learn to live there.

  • I will try. Lets see if I can get things to work with studiomux. If latency is high i will adjust the recorded drum tracks in auria.

It's funny that I went in the opposite lol. I'm more desktop daw now with just sounds exported to my desktop via my Ica4+. Use modstep to sequence the iOS parts to reduce latency and ableton link to keep time. All synths are hosted in Aum sending audio to separate channels into ableton.

  • no special interface is required... midi over bluetooth
