You wouldn’t want a TB-303 then – only two single cycle waveforms: sawtooth and pulse, with no way of editing those.

I’m very cool with single cycle sample players (my favs S_nV_x and BM3 have those) but the 303 doesn’t play single cycle samples, it had an actual oscillator, a sawtooth generator, and a waveshaping transistor to make a square wave from the saw...

I didn’t say samples, it plays a single cycle waveform – from a choice of two of them.
Wave shaping transistor? Basically a switching transistor, set to switch about halfway down the sawtooth, or beyond (plus a peculiar resonant ringing which gives the TB-303 squarewave a bit of sawtooth-y shape to it because of overshoot and subsequent attenuation into the excursion).

that thing is so overused now and I used to like acid.

    I preferred mushrooms.

    DMT?

Never, or I should probably say: not yet.

You can never have enough 303. I introduced mine to Sugarbytes......... I think they are in love <3 :*

  • @robosardine do you follow I Love Acid on FB? Posthuman have done such an awesome job of reviving the 303.

Thanks- but I don’t- I’m not a Facebook user. I had a look on YouTube though- they have a few videos on there.
    Cheers.

  • I hated acid but I still bought troublemaker and now I only kind of hate it.

I’m not into the Acid genre either, but I love the occasional Psy/Goa track. I use “Chicago” as a dummy track and replace it later with audio from Troublemaker via Zurich.

A TB-303 doesn’t have to be used for substance-abuse crazed frenetic dancing music.

    (Live version)

    And also…

  • Just to mention also- Mathew Caldwell’s Muckraker goes very well with 303 emulators- it gives a great variety of distortions that don’t seem to smother up your cutoff and reso fun.

  • Phasemaker is quick and fun.

    Anything with a decent randomizer.
