Urgent Request for Video Makers
For all of you making the wonderful videos, please, please, please focus your cameras properly on the screen and then turn off the fucking autofocus! Having the focus wander in and out as you point out things on the screen is not simply annoying, it makes what you're trying to show incomprehensible. This is such a simple thing to do and it will increase the clarity of your videos immensely.
Comments
Haha. Very annoying and usually results in an unsubscribe (Harsh, yes but unacceptable). I don’t need more reasons to give myself an instant headache trying to make my eyes focus on something that will never go into focus.
Of course if the content is indispensable, highly useful, then please go ahead and post, share etc. But this is a very small, easy tip for a more successful YouTube channel.
(Hint: on iOS devices, this is done by long-tapping the desired focus spot
)
yes !
also stop waving your cameras about. ... its all about the steady
Yup, instant disregard and termination for handheld videos... why waste the time?
And keep the intros short. The title says what the videos about... no need to tell us all over again. Short intro or no like button clicks.
And focus tighter on the iPad. I don’t need to see the table it is on, but would like to be able to make out the teeny text in the app’s UI.
Can I add 2 things.
Stop recording videos on sicks days off work when you have a cold. The sniffing is annoying.
Stop chewing gum during recording.
Simples.
All others. Keep up the good work!
To summarize:
Capturing:
1) Put camera on a tripod (or some other sturdy mount) that shows the iPad's screen as large as possible in the viewfinder.
2) Make sure iPad glass is clean with no reflections.
3) Switch camera to manual focus.
4) Use zoom function to ensure good, crisp focus is on iPad, then lock the focus.
5) Shoot some video, then check results (both video and audio).
6) Adjust as necessary then proceed.
In post-processing:
1) Delete repetition and mistakes. So many videos show the presenter hunting endlessly for a preset/setting etc (which is usually quite visible as they scroll by repeatedly until you want to scream "There it is!!!". Damn it, cut to the chase!
2) Use text-overs to add clarification and/or address errors.
3) Rinse and repeat above steps until the video is minimum length with maximum clarity and information.
Cheers!
Absolutely, I’m sick of getting this poor quality, but sometimes informative none the less, content for free.
It’s a disgrace.
I feel I fall into a few of the above categories so I must apologise for offending.
My camera does not have Focus Lock sadly, it’s an annoyance to me too, although it is on a mount and for the most time is focused good and sharp.
I do waffle on sometimes and bundle round the screen looking for stuff, I don’t have the luxury of time to edit really because I put out a lot of content, almost everyday, sometimes twice a day, but seriously if my work really bothers you don’t watch it, it’s all cool beans
As far as I'm concerned Doug you've got an acceptable intro length and the production quality is always tops.
Take a leaf out of the Doug and Haq book; show us what something does, rather than talk about it. Thanks.
If you re-read my original post, you'll plainly see "all of you making the wonderful videos", so please don't get the wrong idea.
While I may be a tad vociferous in offering advice, it is meant purely in the spirit of providing some assistance to those who may not have the background I do in photography. I find immense value in the videos being created and presented as labours of love. That is why it is all the more vexing when I have to abandon watching a video due to the focus-shifting etc.
No showing off with playing skills
No fillers such as ‘like’ and ‘you know’, ‘mmmms’ and ‘ahhhs’
No personal life details, thank you very much
No big fingers, just lady like smooth digits.
No ticks, funny human mannerisms etc.
No accents, queen’s English or better provide subtitles.
No food, drinks, Etc etc...
I’ll think of some more but in the meantime please memorise the above, thanks.
@supadom I think I'll just retire
I guess the word urgent means something different these days.......
Do you have some medical condition?
All that vexing and abandoning your device to recover in your dark room.....?
How droll.
This one is for you Dom!
Feet be ugly!
Nah, you just need to smooth out that scouse talk!
I will wear the same stripy white and blue smelly socks just for you Spook.
Haha. Fair play Dom!
I think the no food or drinks is a bit draconian.
