Using Patterning app as a MIDI controller, CC's?

Anyone ever tried this? I've got Patterning triggering an Ableton drum rack. What I thought would be super cool is to map Patterning CC data — attack, decay, filter, reverb etc., to parameters in Ableton but can't get any of the CC data to come through. I have the CC values set to 'on' in Patterning MIDI config, but nothing is being recognised. Anyone tried anything similar? Thanks.

You may check out Oscilab's midi section for pattern sequenced CCs.
It's 4 CCs per track, but you could duplicate the track pattern and assign more.
I use it a lot (almost exclusively for that purpose)

  • Hi,

I'm using Logic 9 on the Mac and I've just got Patterning on the iPad; is there any way they can talk each other? I'm getting nowhere with midi or sync so far and i'd love I could use those beats...

    Thanks!

  • I did this a while ago, but I forget the exact details. I think I did MIDI Learn on the CC values but could be wrong. Basically I used Patterning as a drawable MIDI LFO to control a low pass filter in AUM. I set Patterning to the maximum steps to get maximum resolution and set it to reverse the pattern when complete to double the effective LFO wave length. Then while listening to it I could go back and redraw portions of my LFO shape and hear the changes in real-time. It was lots of fun.

You have revealed my secret weapon! :s ;)

That sounds pretty cool. Gotta try that out! Thanks for the deets. B)

  • No

But I use Patterning like other people do things like BM3.

I use it for all my sample player stuff.

The truth of the matter for me is this, I need to TWEAK on the fly.

I can't parse through menus and sub menus then hold for 2 seconds to open the other layer that then divides into 4 windows that then descend down the left side of the page................

AND the FX of Patterning and apps like it are better or the same as the effects of some of the apps available.

The filter on Pattering is amazing.

AND ALL CAN BE DONE DURING PERFORMANCE AND UTILIZE AB REMOTE.

So, being a fan I think Patterning is more than a drum app for sure.

  • @RUST( i )K All very good points you have brought up here. It really is a unique, powerful sampler now that you point that out.

Yeah and with the ability to change scenes in AB Remote it is invaluable for me.

I have done whole songs on Patterning.

It really is a complex app..

Actually Chordion and Ribbon are amazing too.

I am OCD so I like to use apps all by same dev.

    Olympia is amazing like that.

    Patterning
    Chordion
    Ribbon
    Dots

You can do a whole live show with these 4 apps!

The most common issue doing this :: In Ableton, you need to make sure you have your MIDI input "Remote" enabled, otherwise you can't map the CCs from that MIDI port. Preferences > MIDI

Dude, I also love Ribbons. It does the haunted Theremin thing extremely well to my ears, and I love the LFO morphing of the oscillator waveform. :)
