Is there a sample app that is like the sample editor in Ableton?
I’m dumb but it seems like all the discussion is about making sample instruments or drum kits from samples (midi).
But what about just editing loops: slice loop to whatever number bars and edit tempo grid points. Basically changing or fixing the internal tempo match of the transients and also tempo matching the whole loop to a chosen BPM. It could have other features with pitch too.
Can reslice do this?
Comments
ReSlice is more for pitching slices not really warping IMO (but I can be wrong)
The usual recommendation is AuriaPro.
I’m not aware of any other recently. BM3 could do something in that line but workflow isn’t what you described neither...
You could do it in BM3, but it’s a bit long winded: import sample, edit slice points, slice to pads, arrange on the sequencer timeline, set tempo, export.
As long as the loop is chopped properly there are a number of apps that will stretch the loop to fit the tempo. In IOS you'll need a DAW like BM3, Auria or Cubasis to do the trimming. Once trimmed them can be timestretched. Caustic has a capable editor and timestretch function but that ship seems to have sailed.
Samplist just hit the store.
I was under the impression that this was not what that app does. I thought it does what reslice does.
Also,
sure, other apps can timestretch and trim loops, but that’s not the real value of the ableton sample editor, you know? I thought it was about fucking with where the transients fall on the beats of the loop (or just tightening up a “lazy” recording).
Isn’t this a pretty useful feature of working with samples? And seemingly not the hard to create software for?
Surely Ableton Live can’t be the only app period that stretches parts of a loop relative to itself? How else would you “fix” the rhythm of a sample, for example?
BM3 AND iMPC Pro/2 cover this well don’t they?
Auria does this. You can stretch the loop to fit a tempo grid, then identify beat transient points and stretch the audio of the prior / subsequent beat to line then up to the grid.
Auria Pro is the only one I know of that detects transients and lets you adjust
Oh, I was thinking by hand without detecting transients. I thought iMPC Pro detected transients too?
I haven’t tried those before. Just got my first iPad this year. I’ll take your word for it.
Transient detection isn’t essential I wouldn’t say, just setting of grid points and warping to that.
Thanks
Don’t take my word for anything though
I’m no seasoned pro, that’s for sure...
I don’t think any iOS app has the Ableton warp markers though so there’s still a bit of work
Thanks for the response. I thought it was a standard thing, maybe it’s not. Seems useful to warp a sample around the rhythm you choose. Can change the loop a lot. I have a lot of work to do before I know anything tho.
yep it's absolutely bonkers that nobody is utilizing war-marker manipulation on IOS... haven't used Auria so don't know how much it's transient marker adjustments talked about earlier equate to the warp marker workflow of ableton. I've mentioned it many times on this forum... it's seems like a conspiracy that the most useful sample based features are omitted on the platform. If you get a chance to check out auria and it ends up doing this in a fun, mangling, fashion please report back how you get on.
btw some devs to check with and request this feature that you might want to look into would be
the loop tunes dev -super talented ex mpc dev with great chops and open mind
group the loop dev- adjustable warp markers would make his app really special
blocs wav devs- frankly this should already be in blocs wav and the fact that they resist this feature request is probably proof that the world is flat, although I refuse to concede.... never the less one more feather in the hat if this feature request wouldn't hurt the cause.
So it’s not in BM3 then?
Add iMashup dev who is aware of the great potential of implementing it into that app and let’s continue asking any dev who has remixing apps until someone deliver one under 50€...
Maybe many indie devs don't have the resources to license Elastique Pro? That might explain why only certain apps can do warping.
Initially advertised like, never added...
BM3 has live streaming so if you know the original tempo of the audio file you have, it can be adjusted to match the tempo of the session you’re in. Moving those grid markers is another thing
