Exciting! Is there any way to mimic send tracks in Aum? I bet Cubase/Auria does that but I don't have or want them really.

What do you mean by mimic send tracks? Made my head a little itchy.

After a leeeeeengthy review process, I'm happy to say that I have now launched my Kosmonaut into the App Space!

Here's the custom Soundtestroom link if you feel like supporting our dear friend Doug: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/kosmonaut/id1351237773?=1&mt=8&uo=4&at=1l3voJz

I had to add a standalone IAA/AB3 version to get the app past review. I recommend using AUv3 though as there are no advantages to using standalone and it could use some polish (it's really bare-bones).

Here's an iPhone screenshot - don't worry; Kosmonaut is fully universal :)

Are there any assurances you can give me that I'm not going to be buying an app that will not be supported immediately after purchasing it? I love your apps, and I have purchased nearly every Universal app of yours, but it is also well known that you don't care for iPhones. Could you say anything that will install confidence in my purchase? Thanks in advance!

The $3,99 price doesn't come with extended warranty. But I'm sure I can stretch support a bit beyond the launch day. :)

Hehe!! I'm not worried about the price. I was just hoping to get more of a commitment from you on Universal support after the troubles you were having with iPhone X / Notch support. Does this app release reflect that you've solved the iPhone X support problems, and universal support from you is back again?

I haven't looked at iPhone X specifically for this release. Kosmonaut is mainly an AUv3 plugin - which is screen-agnostic and fully scalable from iPod Touch up to iPad Pro (the notch is the host's problem; as a plugin you never know where the host is going to have the notch anyway).

Oh, OK. But why were you having trouble getting your apps to get the pass from Apple? I thought it had to do with iPhone X and their infamous notch.

I was doing a minor internal update to Ruismaker and Ruismaker FM, and Apple suddenly required me to do a UI makeover (and change all my iTunes promotional artwork) for the X before they'd let them pass review. That's just stupid bully behavior.

I agree with you! It's definitely bully behavior. But what came of it in the end? Did iPhone support get dropped, or did you do the UI makeover and change the promotional artwork? Is this going to affect future apps and future universal support?

They now run in iPhone X resolution natively, but don't account for the notch (yet). So the user experience has taken a step back compared to the old compatibility mode. But hey.. Apple can add it to their proud list of native X apps.

When building a new app from scratch I can likely take the X into account during the design phase.

Well in DAWs send tracks are called many names like aux sends or busses but basically it's a track that you load with whatever effects you want and then you can send the signal from any of your tracks through the send track so you could have one instance of the effect running instead of having a copy of the effect in every channel.

But there's no real control of that, unless I'm mistaken? Like I can't turn a knob to send some of the signal to the delay send and then dial it down when it feels right, can I?

  • No, there is no wet/dry, the topology of this effect doesn't really lend itself to wet/dry.

  • @raindro isn’t this what you’re after? Just use the % send dial and the channel volume faders to get the sound you want.

  • @gusgranite said:

    BAM! Yes! Great, thank you.

  • edited March 2018

There is no completely wet in the plugin @gusgranite.
Using it on a send will have no effect accept allow you to hear even more dry.

This plugin is not designed for that anyway, its gold as it is.

  • @raindro is asking the same question I asked I believe. There is no wet/dry blend, so when you send a signal from another channel (as opposed to using it as an insert), the dry signal
is basically doubled on the send effect. Not something I’m complaining about, I was just curious if that was the intention or if there was a workaround I may have missed.

I've been thinking about a "wet"-switch to leave out the input signal, but it's a bit of a conceptual oddball. Some parts of the signal chain simply don't make sense without the dry signal (e.g. the Haas processor and the tapeloop can't exist without blending the dry and the wet). This means that even with "wet"-mode enabled you'd get a mess as soon as you dial in a Haas setting. To avoid confusion I've left it out.

  • Good stuff, y’all! I see what you’re on about now.

I figured it was something logical. Makes perfect sense. Thanks again for another amazing AU!

  • It seems like this effect is wet only, since there is no dry signal being mixed with the wet signal in the schematic. The input goes into the tape loop, which adds some warmth/saturation immediately, and then proceeds from there. Where is the dry signal coming from other than the other original, pre-send track?

  • Epic. Congrats!

So I just loaded Jubal flute and this as AU in AB3 and I can’t hear any difference between turning the effect on and off .....

You may want to select a preset first, or change some parameters, as it loads in clean "init" mode.

Tried several different preset before posting

For my own sanity I just tried again in AB3 on iPhone and iPad Pro, and it works perfectly - so I don't know why you're not hearing the effect on your end. Is Jubal Flute itself already drenched in effects causing Kosmonaut to disappear? Sorry, I have no idea - all hosts and devices I've tried in work consistently as expected.

    You loaded it as AUv3?

Yes I loaded both as AUV3.

But I have worked out that it only seems to work if I have link enabled in Audiobus.

  • Congrats! This sounds fantastic.

  • Nice :) Added to my wishlist for my next app shopping trip

Seems like it needs transport info for the tape loop to start rolling. I assume the link start/stop may be the reason it needs link on. Cool that it is working for you now. :)

Ah.. that probably enables host tempo sync for AU plugins. Glad that it’s solved!

  • Super fun to fiddle with. Thanks and congrats

  • Was just in the AppStore buying this, and noticed it is #1 in paid music apps. Congratulations, Bram. Though I suspect this isn’t your first #1 hit. B)

  • I Bram just bought your app. Don’t know if it’s anything do with the iPad Pro but it doesn’t seem to show up in AUM as an AU. It shows up as inter app then comes up as green blank screen. Tried it on my small iPad and it works just fine, so dunno what’s goin on. Just thought i’d let you know in case there’s a bug needing squashing

Mine was like that on iPhone 8 until I powered off the phone and restarted. After that it showed up fine in the AUM AU list, but before that I was getting exactly what you are getting.

As @Angie said, this happens sometimes for me too on the Pro.

    Reboot usually fixes it.

As suggested above, please try a restart and let me know if the problem persists. It was developed on a Pro for the most part, so I’ve seen it work on one :)

  • @brambos : My dream of an AU looper would come true if the "Sound on sound" buffer would be tempo/transport synced, with Write and Clear buffer functions and a longer tape length :) I would gladly pay for a different app that does this :)
