Composition using Notion and Auria Pro
Long time, not posts...
I had opened a thread a while ago about orchestral music on the iPad. Was disappointed that sample instruments were not so good on iPad, especially compared to PC sample libraries! So I tried to make orchestral music on the PC, and gave up on iPad music making.
That road was cut short due to some technical issue with the laptop I had. Main reason was I also had some hearing loss that seems permanent (Sudden Sensorineural Hearing Loss) - lost hearing of bass frequencies in my right ear. (anything below 300Hz is inaudible). This made mixing quite difficult as I wasn't sure I was hearing things properly. This drove me to write music in notation only, hoping if my hearing came back enough, I could continue to make the music with good samples, just playing in a DAW what I had written out. This drove me to Musescore (PC open source notation program) and then finally to Notion IOS.
As an experiment, I wrote a song out on Notion IOS, exported each instrument as audio file, imported into Auria Pro, mixed with some orchestral music techniques with Aux sends/Reverb and am happy with the results.
Anyway, long way of saying, it's possible to make orchestral music on the iPad like the PC midi mockup guys do it. It won't sound as realistic, but I think some decent results are possible. Also, I love the portability of IOS music making. If used for a sketchpad to later improve on a PC, or if used stand alone, it's really nice.
Enjoy!

Thanks!
No iSymphonic. Just Notion and
solo-ed each track one by one and export WAV
There are a couple of symphonic apps that out put .wav, staff notation and midi files...Symphonix EV, Symphony Pro 5 that have General midi style instruments. Also MultiTrackStudio allows you to write in score format while driving the usual available AUv3 or IAA or in app instruments or sf2, then “print” to .wav tracks or midi for whatever...
Sorry, must have heard you with my right ear
I have iSymphonic, but never bought expansion sound packs. The iSymphonic sounds are good maybe better than Notion, but there are not so many individual sounds like violins, violas, basses, snare, trumpet...etc. unless you start buying sounds packs, but it looked like a $150-$180 investment. I was looking to orchestrate a piece one instrument or instrument section at a time and have the ability to adjust each instruments balance and reverb levels individually in the DAW. For what I wanted to do, and not spend a lot, Notion + Auria Pro was good enough.
There are a couple good threads on this forum for info on Orchestral Music sounds and workflow on an iPad (MusicInclusive!)
No. Sorry.
Hi
Very interesting melody. I really liked it.
I am also interested in using iPad for orchestral music
I use iSymphonic orchestra and SampleTank (Miroslav Philharmonik 2). In iSymphonic I use Aulos for woodwinds, Cupra for brass and timpani and Voce for choirs and Pro for French horns. (There is a String patch with name Serenata strings 2 in Aulos which I really like).
I use SampleTank (Miroslav Philharmonik 2) for articulations because iSym lacks them. Also I use it’s Piano
Really cool!
