Cubasis 2 + AUv3's (Debugging)
I am attempting to be a good customer and provide developers of DAWs and apps with information on crashes. I started a thread on the Cubasis forum in order to try to solve/figure out what is causing the problems.
FAC Maxima and FAC Chorus are giving me troubles, although I suspect it is a Cubasis or Apple issue, but I do not know. I found no links to contact Frederic directly so I am posting this here, hoping to gain the right attention.
Lars, from Steinberg, has asked me to make a video and document the problem, because when he tries to replicate it he has no issues. He has offered Frederic a "Cubasis promo code" to look into the problem. I am posting this here rather than on the App Store review because, obviously, it is an inappropriate place to start when dealing with such things.
Myself, I am not presently up for spending a bunch of time making a video (maybe someone can advise me on a free way to do such a thing within the ipad that is fast and easy, and records/indicates my gestures within the daw.
I am hoping some people can share some their stories of any problems they are having running Cubasis with AUv3's so that I can find out if it is something I am doing wrong personally. I have kept an eye on my CPU meter and feel as though my problems are occurring during very light use and am not too interested in getting into blaming either the hardware or the user.
Here is the thread I posted documenting process:
https://www.steinberg.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=183&t=134176&p=726584#p726584
Again, if you are having similar problems please share them so that we get get everything working a lot tighter. Issues like this can be such a creativity vacuum.

Have you tried with the latest updated version of the FAC plugin? Iirc people reported a similar issue in Auria with the previous version.
I've had no issues what so ever with the FAC AUv3's on my iPad Air 2, iOS11.2.6.
Some AUv3's can eventually have issues when using other sample-rates than 44.1 and/or buffer sizes >256.
But since we don't know what iPad, iOS version and sample-rate & bit-depth etc. we're dealing with it makes trouble shooting a real pita...
I have had a few issues when trying to record at 48khz but I figured out to disconnect and reconnect the AU Effect then it works perfectly!
Also IAA will not record at 48khz. So for now I’m only using AU Synths and effects! Working great in Cubasis and it’s been rock solid so far. Just last week I was using only Auria Pro, but the Auria & Cubasis thread got me to jump in Cubasis again. Wow so glad cause I got 8 midi tracks running 2 Zeeons, 3 Poison-202’s, Ruismaker Drums, and iSEM Synths!
All load up quick and with no issues at all!
By the way, I don’t recall when iSEM was tweaked, it loads super fast now! So awesome!
Really?!! Redownloading asap
Between 5-8 seconds per instance on my Air 2...
Next time tag me please
So the only thing I've discussed with Steinberg is the issue with the presets, this has already been communicated in the FAC Transient topic made by Doug.
Don't know if it's related to what you have encountered but hope it helps. And yes as already mentioned please update you FAC apps
Know issue:
There is an issue if the current preset is set via the preset manager provided with FAC apps the app will hang and freeze. This has already been discussed with Cubasis team and they will provide a fix soon.
Workaround:
I can not hide the preset manager because as AuV3 plugin I do not receive the info that I'm in Cubasis.
So please, Cubasis users, use the preset organiser provided within Cubasis and do not use the one provided with FAC apps
Just updated Maxima and Chorus -- surprised that I wasn't offered an auto update choice in the app-store updates section as per usual. Are apps often updated without the user knowing?
Running iOS 11.2.6 on an iPad Mini 4 sample rate 44.1, 16-bit resolution, (recording buffer is simple on/off button that enables/disables "Large Recording Buffer," currently "Large Recording Buffer" is disabled). Hardware latency set to low.
I did notice that "Low Waveform Quality" is enabled in the "Arranger" submenu of "Setup." What do I gain and give up with that option?
I was not notified that there was an update available in the app store under updates. Is this normal?
Lately there have been many phenomena in the redesigned App Store which could be described as ‘not normal’. Just go with the flow and hope Apple are still polishing it
More detailed and less blocky drawing of the recorded wave-form when zoomed in.
Thanks Samu.
Cpu savings?
Are you on iOS 11? Try dragging the update screen downwards to ‘refresh’ it every time you want to check for updates.
Do you mean scroll to the bottom?
Yea still too slow on my iPad Pro 2017...re-deleted
On the other hand I discovered accidentally that Logic Space Designer (convolution reverb) is inserted as an effect preset in some GB iOS instruments. Hope it can one day be surfaced and used anywhere in GB
GarageBand shares it’s audio-engine with Logic, no question about that. It’s just lacking the required UI features to fully exploit it
***Update. After going back and fourth with Lars at Steinberg and Fred of FAC Chorus/Maxima, I am delighted to say that Cubasis 2 is running very well on my iPad Mini 4. There are many AUv3's stacked up in my tracks and bouncing audio is starting to seem not so bad. I am sure there will be more surprises and workarounds to learn, hard lessons and preset vanishes -- however, I have made it over the first hill when committing to a medium as an artist and am feeling that holy grail of motivational excitement that is indispensable to any creative enterprise. Much thanks to the friendly audiobus community and receptive app developers.
[Moved here from a separate thread.]
I am having issues that appear related to use of FAC Transient in Cubasis. First of all, selected presets on tracks do not stay selected between sessions. I'm using preset selector underneath the AU interface, so that might be the wrong one according to this thread. Secondly, attempting an audio Mixdown of a song that includes a track with FAC Transient applied with anything other than the Init preset selected doesn't work. It won't allow me to tap the "Start Mixdown" button at all. I'm also having general stability problems with Cubasis freezing up after messing with these settings. Can anyone confirm these issues?
(Using an original iPad Pro 12.9" currently running iOS 11.2.1.)
@futureaztec, does this sound familiar?
@FredAntonCorvest and @Lars, is this the same thing or something different?
@FredAntonCorvest
Hi,
Could you please reply to oddSTAR here?
Using Cubasis' own user preset system works fine here, same for Track Freeze.
Thanks,
Lars
Hi all,
As already mentioned here:
Know issue in Cubasis:
There is an issue if the current preset (so yes the preset) is set via the preset manager provided with FAC apps the app will hang and freeze.
So be sure to have the last version of FAC Transient => 1.0.2 and do not use the preset manager provided with FAC apps in Cubasis.
Hi @Lars, we have indeed already talked about the presets issues last year, you proposed a fix but I'm not sure that it's aleardy available in Cubasis? Any chance to get a status?
No, while at the top of the page, put your finger on the screen and “pull’’ downwards, it will often reveal updates that aren’t showing yet.
Please bring back the wish-list someone
