Vanilla forum update

Hey guys. I've just updated the forum to Vanilla 2.5.1, which has some important security fixes apparently...but it's broken a couple of things: polls and YouTube embedding, so far. Please stand by while I try to fix it over the next few days.

  • You better fix it, or else. ;) But first, just enjoy the friggin weekend. Kick back and take a load off.

  • And while you’re kicking back, here’s some great YouTube videos to enjoy.....

Let me just take a moment to say thanks for keeping this forum running! It has become my number one source for iOS music info. Its rare for me to make a purchase without checking here first.

Just like how audiobus connects all our favorite apps, this forum connects the community.

  • Thank you!

(Hint: Click it to find out. It’s not a Rick Roll, because that’s soo 10 years ago).

The in thing now is a Nic Roll:-

  • Yeah I noticed ‘mark all as read’ needs a refresh to work now. Sure they’ll fix it in an update though.

    Ditto. (Idiomatic English for +1)

The user and all related content has been deleted.
  • Okay, much of this fixed. Still working on the issue with command-clicking/right-clicking on the notifications popup menu - I thought I found the issue, but it doesn't look like it actually fixed it. If any bright sparks (@syrupcore? =)) can figure it out in the meantime, I'd be much obliged!

I found some other problem with this "update" ;-)

    On Windows, with Firefox:

When i select the number of notification where i see reply to my topcis or my posting, i normaly could those i am interested in just open with a right click and continue to check this list and open more topics using right-click.

Now, the right-click seems to be disabled, which is grossly annoying :-(

Edit: I fact, it is even different: The right click seems to open some Action Scripting or something, which does not allow to open anything with the right mouse click.
Abd when i tried Ctrl-Left Mouse, which should do the same (open a link in a new tab), it does something even more annoying: It opens this link in the current tab AND it opens a new tab in addition.

This is ... not good ...
PLEASE try to fix that or .... roll back :-)

I can't recreate this on FF Mac (right clicking on notification topics works as expected though it dismisses the dropdown/popup element) and don't have quick access to a windows virtual machine at the moment to test this further. I couldn't see anything in the JS code what appeared like it would cause this to happen but that doesn't really mean much! Sorry, both. @tja as a work around, if you click through to the actual notifications page (by clicking 'All notifications' at the bottom of the dropdown), right clicking probably works as expected from there.

  • Hmm, interesting. Well, I'm stumped for now, and have a billion other pressing things to do. I think it'll have to remain for now.

Bollywood vs. Hardstyle. Can't get enough of this!

  • As an aside, the link feature in the comment box is pre-filled with a useless http:// which if you don’t take care to delete it first character by character, will add itself to the url that you’ve copied.
In all known cases this will already contain an https:// of its own.

Is there a way of knocking that redundant http:// out (bearing in mind http:// is likely to stop working soon anyway in some browsers), or is that deeply built in to the way vanilla works and will get updated back to that each time an update occurs?

  • Just a heads up: the like/upvote button is not visible on mobile (iPhone 8 iOS11 Safari) - it has been for a while - so anyone who only uses iPhone may not even know about upvoting!

  • Example

I personally don’t mind but thought you should know :)

It is the number itself – which is not apparent unless you have secret information, keeps the riffraff out. I +’d yours from my iPhone 8+.

  • Hmm, yeah... I thought it'd be a quick fix but it's not working as expected and I've not got time to look into right now. Will leave it on the todo list for now.

    Any luck with this point?

  • The website header is not rendering for me right now. I get text but no formatting (viewing in Chrome on Windows 10).

  • And the background color changed... hence my avatar no longer blends nicely... my avatar must blend nicely.

  • I have big text for quotes and small text for normal posting.

  • Bugger! How's that now?

    Fixed for me.

  • Perfectamundo.
