Elektrons [Missing my iPad Mini -- Tabletop Jam]
Well I sold my 1st gen Mini last week and am still waiting to pick up a new Retina Mini. In the meantime I was missing making music... so I broke out my wife's iPad 2 with Tabletop (pretty much the only music app on it). I forgot how fun this app can be! Makes me want to explore some of the add-ons or try it with IAA.
Anyway here's what I came up with in about 40 minutes... would love to do more with it. Its begging for some glitch breaks type treatment, if I can figure out how to do that... I'm not very experienced with that kind of thing
Has anyone here really explored Tabletop? Are the IAPs and add on effects and instruments any good?
Comments
Also I just noticed when listening on different earbuds that I pushed the lows a bit too hard when I processed this in Audio Mastering, its clipping a bit. First time using that app.
Check this I did at the weekend
I have most of the modules and effects. The only problems are that it is still a bit buggy (will crash to desktop when opening or closing songs) and that you run out of space to add things. I really like it for live stuff. The iMini is the best synth for it.
@KlaatuNinja - Awesome track! Nice work. I'm still getting the hang of using the Triggerator, I kept getting confused about how by default edits you make to an instrument or effect only apply to the currently selected bar, unless you go into Table mode at the top. I was getting frustrated but now I know.
Do you have the Glitchboard effect? It looks like an easy way to create some destructive effects to a section without complicated IAA routing.
And yes, it does seem like an ideal way to play live, since it's an all-in-one enclosed app. I don't have the iMini synth (yet)... My understanding is that if I buy the standalone app it gets unlocked inside Tabletop too?
Thanks!!
Yes that's right. Buy the full iMini and it unlocks in Tabletop. Same with IMPC. I have the glitch board, I bought the deal pack. I haven't really used it much though. I always set all mine to table at the start now.
Cool. Have you used the new Mastermind controller with IAA much? It seems ideally suited to making Tabletop an awesome central live controller and still tie in external synths or instruments easily. If you have used it, how hard is it to map/match control knobs to parameters in those remote apps?
Also are the delay and reverb effects decent and worth the purchase?
I'm using nave through IAA for the vocal part, most of the time it remembers but occasionally it seems to forget....
The fx are not bad, you can get some really long trails on the reverb. I bought the boom room reverb as well, which is great but uses a lot of power. Should be ok when I get my new mini :-)
