Who remembers the RJDJ app?

This was one of the first apps I really fell in love with. It was in the augmented reality category. The idea was really revolutionary for the iPhone at the time. Users would wear headphones and everything they would hear from the real world would be drastically altered in amazing ways. It somehow doesn’t exist anymore, which makes me sad. However there is another app that is currently in the store called Hear - Advanced Listening by Reality Jockey Ltd. While it isn’t as great as RJDJ was, it is still interesting to check out. Does anybody know of any other apps that are similar?

  • Impaktor could be similar and nodebeat in the way too...

Have not tried it yet. And yes I do remember RJDJ

  • @Dubbylabby
I have both nodebeat and impaktor but HOW are you using them like that? Tell me more! 🤨 I’m extremly interested in your comment. Thanks buddy

  • Augment does not seem promising after a few seconds of trying it out.

Well as autogenerative apps the second with piezo (long tread time ago) and the the first just putting random (gravity). Since both have Audiobus it could be possible to mix them. Also samvada as fx insert gives ice textures...
ATM not using any of them, just talking from memories...

For audio mangling realtime there are two similar apps from the same dev that I can remember now fieldwhatever or something similar...

  • RJDJ was one of my first audio apps. I remember being really excited for the future of audio on iOS when it came out. I remember at some point it split into another app that had a few different modules... Trippy Replay is the name of it in my purchased list.

Interesting info on Wikipedia if you are interested.

Same, I’ve still got them on my ancient iPod Touch. Seemed magical at the time.

  • I still have this one on an iPod touch 2nd generation, some of the templates are great fun. I need to replace the battery, screen and headphone jack to access some of those ancient apps!

  • Didn’t the RJDJ dudes do a similar app for the film Inception?

  • Still on my iPhone :p

Not sure if the Inception app still works with iOS 11 but looks like it had a return to the AppStore last year.

  • I like to switch it on when on public transport, late night back from a gig when inebriated.. made some trippy recordings over the years
