Cove: The musical journal by Humane Engineering

Create music to help express complex feelings. Cove is a personal musical journal to help you with your emotional and mental health.

• Create different musical moods and create music with over 30 different instruments
• Just tap and swipe. With simple controls there’s no way to do it wrong!
• Build a song using base chords, melody and percussion
• Store your Cove in a personal journal. A private space to write some thoughts about your feelings where you can add notes, images or tags.

HOW DOES COVE WORK?
We believe Cove has a role to play in improving emotional and mental health by encouraging self-expression.

Cove can be used any time, but may be most useful when you find it difficult to express yourself through other means, such as talking or writing. You can use Cove whenever you feel like it, there is no right or wrong way! You can make music by yourself, or share what you make with others.

    Great concept!

Is it bad that my first thought was "i wonder how angry i can make it" and then assuming "not enough" for an answer?

Ill give it a shot though, might have put the whole thing through a guitar stack and some distortion pedals in tonestack

  • nice looking little sequencer

  • Nice little app. I discovered it is possible to record, and then export for further processing.

  • What a nice, cute little app this is! Good find.

  • Really like it! Exports to AudioShare too! Great find thanks!

  • App pricing models are so hard to keep up with, can I assume that this will be the full fat $35 during NAMM 2019?

  • Ran the exported loop thru Discord4, FAC Maxima, and EOS2, wow really nice!

  • Short sound clip: enjoy! Arriving at work from the METRO train:

    Whoa! Really nice one

  • @senhorlampada thanks!
This Discord4 app is pure magic sauce man and FAC Maxima and EOS are like the topping on the cake! So blessed to have these amazing apps!

  • To me, this Cove app is headed in the right direction--the democratization of music making on mobile devices. Playground is also a leader in this area. I'd even contend that Bram Bos is mining gold in this area with the generative nature of Rozeta (albeit in a cave closer to "expert mode" than "average Joe"). There's something deeply therapeutic about creating something from nothing and mobile devices are about to redefine the whole mental model of creating music and shaping sound.

  • Scape is another great app for this kind of thing

  • Pretty cool actually. Would be great to at least be able to choose key and tempo

  • Doug is there a way to record the output of Scape?

But doesn't that miss the whole point of the app? The idea is to not think about it as music making but as stress relief, therapy, etc.

  • Wow guys are the recordings we make royalty free?

    Made a nice thing already

I don’t think so. My reasoning is that being able to specify those things, would make it possible to have multiple patterns that sound like they belong together in the same “song”. Basically a way to extend your moods into longer moods.

And also, in their feedback form and opening survey they include “making music” as one of the possible reasons for using the app. So unlike some other apps in this kind of genre, that indicates to me that the developers are at least aware that there are possible uses of the app beyond purely therapeutic stuff

  • We need to collectively email the dev and have him add audiobus. Other than that small complaint, I have really enjoyed it... especially for free 😏

  • I’m trying to edit an exported loop but can’t get it to loop perfectly in AudioShare. I’ll try in Cubasis.

  • Ahhhhhh....
I feel so much better now. :)

  • The app hangs after exporting. The thing saves, but I see no way of getting it out of the app without hanging.
