Hah´that is a good one
And true also in this case.
😂👍🏻
Moog minimoog - May The Force Be With You
iMini - May The Farce Be With You
In case there's a few who don't get the second picture, this is the ORIGINAL Star Wars parody. That's not to say that it's any good, but it IS the original.
Thats funny but am I the only one here who actually likes iMini? 🤗
Lots of heat around here since M D came out. 🔥😗
I think theyre both excellent...plus my current situation is iMini on my older ipad 4 and Model D squeezed onto my newer iphone so the iMini is much nicer to use for now.
Yeh, no hate for iMini here, though I'm a light user, mostly only blowing both my mind and eardrums from time to time. Both can do that equally well.
With model D as an AU, I'm sure I'll end up actually using it in things more, and though I have no complaint about iMini, probably won't see the need to have it as well any more.
It’d be good to have a serious comparison. Is the Moog worth having for those of us with ancient Air 2’s - bearing in mind it’s CPU hogginess? I’m not a massive fan of the iMini, but I love its midi learn.
I’m probably the last one on here that hasn’t bought it yet.
I like the one that doesn't cause crackles or make me not use other apps due to CPU.
Call me old fashioned.
I like to do 1 track recording so I need to open multiple apps and run that at once.
So we shall see.
I liked how iMini sounded, but honestly Model D blew it out of the water sonically. I was always frustrated with the inability of iMini to map Oscillator 3 to the mod wheel at a consistent rate over the whole keyboard. It eliminated the options of doing the classic Moog Bass w/ vibrato mod wheel combo, which is 90% of why I want a Minimoog in the first place. That and upon reflection, the filter doesn't sound right. There's a very specific sound to the Moog filter, and while some imitations have come close and others have been way off, of course Model D nailed THAT sound. So yeah, it's a bit of a CPU hog.
BUT IT JUST SOUNDS SO GLORIOUS.
For me, sound trumps everything. So I'll gladly work around any potential bumps in my workflow.
iMini was ok for me in all seriousness but for some reason I never really used it all that much - I preferred and still do iSem.
Delete iMini, you will
Always liked imini. There's an i mini - 70s mini moog back to back comparison on YouTube. I mini does not embarrass itself.
Never tried an iMini, but Hardware Wars was pretty hilarious to my 8 year old self.
Auggie Ben Doggie, Ham Salad, and Chinchilla!
iMini is pretty good and held its own until Model D came around. Both good synths but Model D is not making me delete iMini yet.
Could you make good by combining/layering the two of these?
Nice. I had a chance to mess with model d last night through my good headphones, it definitely sounds more “alive” in the extreme low end than imini. And it is running fine on air 1, I don’t anticipate using it too much with other apps, or if so probably just one instance, so hopefully it will remain ok.
I heard NASA tried this but it crackled because their computer wasnt quite strong enough 😁
Yep, that sounds about right.
iMini wins for playability options, it has a better keyboard and assignable xy pads. Model D wins in sound, however like others I was disappointed they didn’t include the animoog kb for modulation or at least scales. Both are good imo.
I don't like the filter on the iMini. It sounds nothing like a Moog. So that was the show stopper which made me delete it a while back. I've been looking forward seeing a genuine Moog emulation of the Model D for ages, and it's been worth the wait. Seeing how well Model 15 was done, I knew right away I'd be impressed with Model D. For $5, I can use it as an AU in Cubasis or work in Reason 10 via Ableton Link. That's the icing on the cake!
Nope, I still like Imini, but now I can stop asking Arturia to make it an audio unit, that was the only thing it was missing for me, not as much as I needed multiple instances of it, but I just prefer using Au's inside of IOS Daws these days. And even inside AUM or AB3, I lean towards AU's. But Imini is still a good app. Im a big fan of Arturia, I own the Microbrute and Beatstep and got a really sweet deal for the V collection
.
Im running it on an Air2, havent pushed how many AU instances I can run in all the main Daws yet, just tried one instance in Cubasis, BM3 and Arturia, and it sounds great thru my Apogee Duet 2. Out of the 3 Daws Cubasis seems to be the winner in terms of recording parameter automation, it just worked when I hit record and enabled write mode for automation. Auria Pro didnt capture automation as I was playing it though I could go back and draw it in, I may have to go change some settings in Auria, but with Cubasis getting files support now, Ill be recording pretty much in Cubasis and maybe mixing some stuff in Auria.
I did load a few instances in AUM, and 2 seems to be the magic number for the Air2, maybe 3 if you use patches that are basic. Seems to be pretty much on par with the Model 15, and I was able to run one instance of Model D and Model 15 without a hitch. But even if we cant enjoy it as fully as Ipad Pro users, for $5.00, come on....its kind of a no brainer, lol. If Moog plans on raising the price to $30 like their other synths, I would say get it now!!!!! lol
Thanks for the feedback, I bought it in the end.
I managed two instances on my Air2, which gives me something to work with until I can afford a new one. Fantastic bass sounds, this would be my go-to synth for bass if it was easier on the cpu. I figure this will be used mainly for overdubbing.
Hate the file browser UI. Style over function.
Ran this, Ruismaker and a Model 15 on my SE last night in an AUM jam. No crackles, but the SE got worryingly warm, and lost 20% battery in ten minutes.
So a nice thing to grab at the intro price and sounds great. Probably won’t get much use though until I update my gear.
I think it´s also worth 30 for sure (even if you can get for 50 some similar quality desktop plug-ins these days as well which comes with 500+ presets on top) but if you ever like analog/vintage stuff......grab it now!!
I can confirm it sound just so good. The Moog ladder filter is so nice on this one. For sure in my TOP 5 from ALL tools i own (if it´s on mac or iOS or somewhere else).
It's been great watching your journey from lukewarm abut the UI to fully sold on the sound quality. I agree that the sound is amazing, it's really something.
Yes. The GUI is still why i woukd rate it 4/5 stars but as with every tool never judge too fast.
With some tools it take some time but then i really love them. Others i felt in love with the first play but then get bored fast.
I‘m sure i would like it more on an iPad but even more as plug-in to integrate deep in my workflow.
I have Monark and demoed The Legend for a good while but i like this more. Monark i can‘t get warm with.
I might even buy finally The Legend to see if i can recreate some presets there and use Model D as scratchpad.
That might be impossible sometimes since they have different FX and features (like the lacking extra LFO which is in Model D which is very welcome but The Legend offers an extra drive and saturation a small modulation matrix for velocity, aftertouch, MPE etc. and some more extended tweaking in the „back panel“ like Repro).
The great thing is that you get a FX version with The Legend and can use the filter and envelopes etc. in your FX chain.
That would be brilliant for Model D. An AUv3 FX version. While the OSC just are wonderful at RAW but the real magic happens in the envelopes, filter and the combination of bender and delay.
I tried to make my favorite preset with Model 15 but the differences in filter and especially the envelopes are bigger than i thought.
Hah‘ give me the whole Model D as Model 15 expansion module(s)!! I would pay €50 for it as IAP!
As wonderful as these apps are i struggle to get the most out of it and integrate it into my current workflow but they are still very inspiring to me.
Still for a 5 stars app it would need some GUI rework as well as a MUCH better preset management (U-he would be something to look at here).
If you treat them like hardware it‘s O.K. but once you have 500, 1000 or more presets it will go mad.
