Hi Tony, giving Quantum another spin today and wanted to replicate some notes in C minor, but choosing this scale has B not Bb?

Is there another section where I can specify the exact notes I need for a scale?

  • Minor scale seems to be missing it’s flat 7th in any key. Incorrectly having a natural 7th degree.

Also noticed that if Chromatic or Whole Tone scale is selected, then the key note button, C, C# etc, is not lit up like it is when other scales are chosen.

It’s not incorrect. Tony has opted to give us the harmonic version of the minor scale. That raised 7th allows us to have a proper dominant on the V chord.

    Chromatic is technically rootless.

Whole tone is a symmetric scale. There are only two forms( c and c#....both roots show as selections.)

    Hope that helps.

    Hey Wayne.

    Cheers.

I know my minor scales and their degrees, natural, Harmonic, Melodic etc.

But it’s labelled as minor, not harmonic so I was just letting Tony know just in case.

Greater scale options would help here maybe.

  • @SpookyZoo Point taken. Agree about having greater scale options. Could just go chromatic and dial in whatever we want.

    Good points, cheers! :)

    @SpookyZoo & @waynerowand
This is the new custom scales screen (in old UI form). You can make up any scale you want based on semitones and dictate how non-scale notes are modified to scaled ones. i.e. you can modify both the enharmonic spelling or the Adj per semitone.

I will be sharing a screenshot of the new UI this weekend... :) Its progressing well but I have over 1500 images to redo.

  • @midiSequencer Brilliant, man. Excited to see the new UI, too.

actually - here is what the new main screen looks like (I've yet to redo the leds & step option buttons - everything else on this main screen is done - just abit of tweaking and balance)..... However bear in mind Quantum has about 20 pop-up panels...

Ah, awesome. Good stuff Tony!! :)

    Liking the makeover progress too.

  • @midiSequencer Looks fantastic, Tony! Thanks for the peep.

What are the m and arrow buttons beneath each step? Is this a new way to mute and show actions?

Mute and skip buttons moved to the front panel in addition to their usual location on the Step options window

    Ta. ;)

it made sense to move the skip button to the front :) Allows for quick rhythm changes. This will be in the next update (with user scales etc)

  • Quantum, is the Different Drummer of sequencing. Capable of so much, yet intimidating because of the sheer amount of control that can be applied. As others have said, videos showing a step by step approach to using the app would be appreciated.

I find Quantum far more intuitive than DD. I agree a video would be helpful but I think Quantum is thrashes the pants off DD in usability.

Oh, for sure. I’d just like to get into its groove more. :)

my inspiration is UK band Redshift - I'm slowly starting to emulate some of those great Moog modular sequences Mark Shreeve does :)

There are many changes and developments in "Quantum Kosmos".

Is this some giant Quantum piece playing through?!?
Or did you create single tracks and parts and then molded them in a DAW?

In general, how's your work flow with such things?

@tja - this particular session is fairly simple - no multitrack just Model D patch (short decay percussive type, but with ARP effects on) followed by Kosmonaut (delay again & ambience).

This workflow was basically create some nice sounding sequences (in one key) in preparation (I usually just tweak them slightly) - save them as variations.

    You get variety because of:
    a) multiple delays (ARP->Delay in Model D->Kosmonaut) create interesting patterns
    b) transposing brings out harmonics in the sound from model D
    c) I use the 8 realtime controls to tame model D left-hand controls. I could have done a 2nd page to alter tuning etc

so this was really the sequence driving model D ARP that surprised me here - so I built some sequences around that.

@midiSequencer I can listen to this stuff all day.

Same here. Good stuff Tony. New CC UI looking good too. I don't really use the current one but that's inviting.

:) Its not the new UI - but all new screens are flatter in design now. The biggest change on the UI is the main page - so fonts & button styles - black & grey with minimal colouring - based on your design!

Sounds great! One request for the new UI — please make the font style regular not italic, and use apple's generic san francisco system font, IMO this will improve the look of things exponentially :)

  • @midiSequencer would it be possible to have the custom scale change on a given step? It was in this thread where I posted a video where you want to change the scale based on what chord is played:

reworking to use apple font & removing italics
