Bluetooth Midi Controller - Quickest way to setup on an iDevice - 3 clicks!

Hey guys.

When an app you're using doesn't have a Bluetooth Midi option, which app do you use to connect your controller?

The quickest way I found so far is to use the CME XKey app. It takes just 3 taps.

1 - Click on the App icon to open app
2 - Click on the 'Connect to Bluetooth Xkey' button. (Doesn't need to be an Xkey that you're using)
3 - Click on your controller's name in the pop-up menu

That's it...done!

I use AUM a lot as it's super useful for midi routing with the Matrix, so I'll usually connect my Bluetooth devices there, (5 taps). But if not using AUM, the method above works quickest for me.

How do you guys connect?

Ah, cool. Just 3 taps needed with this one too. Nice.

  • Korg BLE-MIDI app takes two taps: tap the app, choose the device. I use it with Nanokey Studio and IK Blueboard.

This is indeed the fastest. But it also requires opening an app that doesn't do anything else. Hence an extra tap or two in total.

  • I wish there was BT-Midi 'auto connect' ie. when turning on a paired device it would automatically connect.
This is the case for head-sets and bt-keyboards...

    Would make sense, right?

For sure, I use it only when using apps which don’t have any bluetooth LE apairing. When using AUM, Loopy or Gadget I use app internal setup of course. Gadget is the fastest thanks to a pop up when a bt device is available.

For sure, should be better and I don’t like using too much background running apps. BTW Korg BLEmidi is pretty stable, no connection issue not crash even on long sessions.

    Cool, thanks @Janosax

@lukesleepwalker Sometimes I just wanna pair my controller with the iPad before I even choose which app to use. Then there’s no menu diving once in the app.

A two-tap solution is great. The Korg app can be killed straight after as the connection will persist.
