So I got lucky and found a used near-mint condition Beatstep yesterday for $45. I really didn’t need another MIDI controller, but I couldn’t pass it up! I was up REALLY late enjoying using it with ElasticDrums, DM2 and Loopy among other things...I’ve already got so many uses planned for this guy.
So...Owners...I was wondering what you good people are doing with this little controller? I’m NOT looking to sequence external hardware, as I don’t have anymore...Strictly iOS and Ableton...

I will add it’s midi out port works great for syncing to external loop pedals. I have my TC Helicon VL3 looper synced up nice with the LoopyHD clock and MIDI Link Sync...love it.
When Im not using it for the obvious things I like to send midi notes to light the pads to make funky flashing patterns that are synced to music by midi clock. You can use any midi sequencer to design light show patterns and with a clip based sequencer like modstep you can even tigger different pattern sequence clips by midi learning lauching a clip to one of the drum pads. Hours of fun!
My favorite feature is the random play mode, least favorite is the knobs, too jumpy. Great solid piece of kit though. Im definitely buying more Arturia equipment.
Perfect controller for Loopy. Each column is volume, pan, record/mute and re-record for 8 tracks. Well, 7 and then I use the last one as 'current track'. Been meaning to set up a second template on it for tracks 7-12 but haven't really needed to.
Also perfect for AUM. Set up a template in AUM with your 'normal' number of channels and then you can midi learn it so that one BS template does volume/pan and a second does aux 1 and aux 2 send amounts.
I don't generally use it for synth control. I prefer the x-stations for the layout.
Yup, didn't think about that one. Been using a LaunchControlXL for AUM. But that's a great idea for it.
But I do think that I figured out why it was used...maybe...
It seems the first three pads are staying lit red instead of flashing once. I'm not sure if these are stuck pads or not? On off? Perhaps the previous owner edited the settings...I haven't installed the editor on my Mac yet. Are the pads supposed to stay lit red? If not perhaps I need to go to the Arturia website and figure out how to set this thing back to default settings and go from there...
You can set a pad to be momentary or as an on/off toggle via the editor. second press should turn them off.
Cool beans... I figured it was an on/off toggle...I didn't have it in front of me so I wasn't sure. Thank you...I'll be home soon from work to install the editor, I'm excited! Nothing like more knobs and pads than you had before to make your day...
@syrupcore Can you describe or better put a small video together of how have loopy and AUM wired with beatstep? I am struggling to set up tonestack and audiodamge effects and aum and loopy all together with beatstep. Hoping to use all the pads to control loopy tracks and knobs to control effects params but didn’t find a tutorial or video of a possible combo
I'm not sure if Loopy exposes midi controllable elements to hosts like AUM. You can run it in the background and do the midi learn directly within the app. Both AUM and Loopy can receive midi from the same device simultaneously. Does that help? Not sure how you have things set up.
I put in Audiobus as the send target and then loaded Loopy in Audiobus and perhaps that is somewhat causing the confusion
Are there better Loopers that work with Aum in a better way ( heard group the loop is good?) along with beatstep
