See legendary German electronic duo "Mouse on Mars using Elastic Drums for their single "Foul Mouth"
Mouse on Mars have always taken mobile devices as serious music tools. In this video they breakdown their single "Foul Mouth" and explain how they used Elastic Drums apps in their production:
AND: Mouse on Mars new album "Dimensional People" is out today finally !!!
I think it's one of their best, and I am listening to it since the day I got a preview from them. It's combining electronica and handmade music in a very eloquent way, I haven't heard before. If you like their music please support the group with buying their music on Thrill Jockey Records or Bandcamp! If you buy physical versions, you get rewarded with a lovely designed cover & inlet:

Nice'un.
You know, I love MOM, and I want to love this app. But I’ve said this countless times on this forum - it would be SO much better if you made it more stable.
Ever since day 1 when I used it with Audiobus it’d crash out. And ever since I’ve used AUM for jamming, it ALWAYS drops out when I’m recording.
Just recorded a five minute jam and it had to be reloaded FIVE times. CPU at 40%, all other apps happy as Larry.
Brilliant app, but as stable as Trump.
This has happened on my old iPad 2, my iPhone SE, my Air 2, and iPad 2017, running whatever the latest iOS available at the time.
I would use this app constantly if it didn’t keep bombing out.
Strange! I cannot recall ever having crashes. Super stable for me on Air1, mini2 and 2017. Only reason I strayed was BM3/ElasticFX are now covering my sampler needs. Hmmm, maybe that is the thing, I only ever really got into the samples on Elastic Drums.
I ended up finally grabbing Elastic FX while it's currently on sale. Seems it's had a lot of good reviews from the users here, but honestly... I'm getting major finicky performance from this. Sometimes it won't automate at all. Sometimes the automation is nothing like what I just recorded.
It won't automate at all if I'm using some of my AUs as the source. I get FX when using Tardigrain as a source, but EFX won't automate. It will automate with Swarplug as an AU. Sometimes I can't get any sound to pass through at all. Figured it was just some issue with AUs, but tried Animoog as the source and couldn't get it to automate with that one either.
Tried clearing memory, force reset/restart... and even deleted EFX and reinstalled. Still flaky as hell.
I'm not too worried about it since this developer has always been quick with the updates... but I'm surprised I haven't seen more posts about how buggy EFX seems to be at the moment.
I'm running iOS11.3 on an 10.5.
Have you tried recording with it in AUM? That’s when it bombs out for me. Fine in standalone and AUM, but drops out shortly after hitting the record button.
Hello @MonzoPro. I never realized a crash of ED inside AUM and I just recorded ED inside AUM for 2 minutes and had no crash either (using a powerful iPad Pro though)
if you want to write me directly: [email protected]
... Oh just seeing your other post above. An old iPad 2 might be too weak for ED and AUM indeed, but it also happens with more powerful devices to you?
Ok, most of my issues resolved by turning on Link in EFX.
Strange, it seems like if you don’t need Link and have it turned off in AUM and turned off in EFX too, the automation should still work. But in order for automation to work for me with any type of source, Link must be turned on in EFX... even if Link is turned off in AUM.
The length of an automation seems a bit too short. Any way to increase that?
Also, is there any documentation explaining the various routing settings in more detail?
In AUM you could use IAA sync, which should get selected by default
I already increased from 4 pattern to 16 pattern. Of how long do you think of?
Nope, not yet. I was hoping to make the apps as self explanatory that you don't need a manual.
But maybe possibilities are already to complex, though
I realize that, but my point is... if I don’t need any sync at all, and have it turned off, shouldn’t the automation still work?
I see the 16 pattern, but your app info says to use in standalone mode. How do you get 16 when hosted in AUM?
Not really too complex. I just don’t get the routing difference between all 4 FX together in a cube, or all lined up vertically. Seems there would not be a routing difference between those two. I’m only asking out of curiosity, not criticizing you or your app. I simply want to understand what everything does.
Can the parameter dials be automated too?
I’m gonna bail on this for now. Will revisit after some updates. When I choose 16 pattern I get no automation at all. When I choose 1-4 and sometimes 8, I get some automation but it always snaps back to the center and 16 doesn’t work at all.
After I select 16, I can’t deselect it, meaning it won’t automate at all until I quit out and relaunch to get rid of the 16 setting. Then, it only automates if I have link turned on in EFX.
Sorry, but this isn’t my first iOS sound app to learn, and yet I’m finding it doesn’t do what’s intuitively expected at all.
Lots of promise and I like the app, but it’s simply not working as I’d expect at the moment.
Just did an AUM test and had four successful recordings of about a minute each, playing around with the FX automation and adjusting steps etc. One session did fail with AUM showing the ‘lined out’ icon. I was able to eject it and reload it without doing an ‘IAA ghost clense’. This is on my 2017 ipad with, uhhh, not the current ios update but the last one... 11...something.
Yep, that’s the feller. I usually get a minute or two before it drops out.
CPU usage was only around 40%, and I was running it with some CPU-friendly Brambos apps.
ED is the only app that does this, and apart from one period when an update seemed to fix the issue, always has.
Even when I run several instances of the Moogs, and the CPU hits 100%, they don’t drop out. The sound crackles, the iPad feels like it’s on fire, but they don’t drop out.
ED used to do this when I used Audiobus, and now it seems unstable with AUM.
You need sync for automation but in AUM you can use IAA sync, that was my point
longtap the automate circle button then you can change the lenght
Nope, only the 2 XY and parameters
I didn’t know you had to have sync for automation. Now I know.
Yes, I already did that, but if I select 16, it doesn’t automate at all. If I select 1-4 and sometimes 8, it automates but always snaps back to center even if my automation doesn’t begin at center.
The ONLY way this responds as expected is if EFX has link turned on.
After I long press and select 1-4, 8, or 16, I can’t unselect and go back to link sync, unless I quit out and restart.
Dude, I do like your app... and don’t regret buying it... I would definitely purchase it again even knowing what I know now, but I don’t think it’s automation is behaving like it should.
Maybe check with your beta testers? I’m getting the same unreliable behavior using it on my iPhone too.
I just tried and could record automation with IAA sync (and no Link) inside AUM. Sometimes you have to "Delete Channel Automation" (longtap Automate circle), because there might be old automations that lead to unwanted results
Yeah, I will have another look into it, should work a bit more predicable, though
I just tried again. Long tap, deleted all automation, etc. I get no automation with IAA sync. It says I’ve got IAA sync at the top of EFX but no automation. The ONLY way I get any automation in AUM is if I have link turned on in EFX.
There are no settings I’ve found in AUM that give me any automation unless I have link turned on in EFX.
Any ideas of something I might have set wrong in AUM?
Oh FFS!!!!
Never mind. Idiot user error.
My fault. I was using latched synths as my source with IAA sync, but wasn’t also activating the freakin’ playhead. Doh! Sorry dude!!!
Totally my fault. Works fine now.
My requests for longer automation was so that if I’ve got a minimal ambient loop going, I can have very slow and subtle changes automated in EFX. The way it is now it seems to favor quick radical changes over slowly evolving changes.
Very cool app by the way. Love it! Sweet to nab it currently on sale too
great to hear it works now for you
@Max23 nice track, I am not sure if I even know that
