What iPad only apps (and/or iPhone only apps for that matter) would you like to see be universal?

Curious. Personally, I was just thinking about
Patterning
Fugue Machine
Samplr
Borderlands Granular

  • Cubasis, BM3, Modstep

  • untappd. Hate the fact it's 2x on the iPad.

  • Werkbench, but he's working on it.

    Also, SeekBeats.

I thought SeekBeats was universal. Its on my iPhone anyways...

Damn. You’re right! Got lost in my folders!

  • IMs-20, phonem.

  • All of them.

  • Auria Pro, Patterning, BM3, Soundscaper, Cyclop

    :mic drop: :p

Agreed. I'd say Cubasis and/or Auria Pro, but as long as Xequence gets there before I'm completely tired of Gadget, then who needs either of them?

    Axon
    Phosphor
    Cyclop
    Thor
    IM1

... and lots more I've lost track of because I get excited, try to find them in the App Store and go "oh... well.. that sucks..." and then move on to buy an alternative if one exists.

  • Master Record
    Audio Mastering
    Master FX
    Altispace
    MultitrackStudio for iPad

    Isn't Altispace universal?

  • BM3. Also Korvpressor, because it being iPad-only is just ridiculous. I’d also opt for iM1, but at least I have that in some form through Darwin on the iPhone. :) Otherwise, I’m not really in need of much more than that.

  • Korg Ikaosilator.......really annoying that it only displays in portrait on iPad. Or is that just a design omission by Korg?

To be fair I’m not sure how it would look in landscape. It’s not like there’s any additional functions you could cram on the landscape screen. Or would the pad become rectangular? And technically it is universal. I think that’s just the way the app is rather than an omission

Would be awesome if 'Landscape Mode' would summon a piano-roll to correct notes that got miss-tapped :)
Then again I'd love to have iKaossilator as a 'Gadget' it's still got plenty of nice sounds and a kaos pad...

The thing is, my iPad is integrated into my studio setup in Landscape mode, so that the lightening cable (which keeps it charged , & plugged into Ableton via studiomux ) is as unobtrusive as possible. Every other app i use displays in Landscape. Puts me off using it.......shame really......it gets fired up on the phone occasionally, but pretty much never on the iPad. I have a hardware Kaosilator ( The first little yellow one ) which i prefer really........ it still sounds great............still use it...........

  • @Iso Using the occasional portrait only app while the rest are landscape makes me feel like I am eating tacos. :D

I don’t think it would be too difficult to give iKaossilator a landscape perspective for iPad. It would just be a case of giving it a side-by-side UI as opposed to a top/bottom one.

Surely a piano roll would undermine the Kaoss (chaos) concept. Notes are supposed to be miss-tapped and chaotic, aren’t they? :)

:) I have tried it...........no matter how much i try to not be bothered, it still makes me feel really bothered! Exactly the same functionality, just the wrong way round! My head can't cope with this subversive chaos! Is the world going mad? Am i going mad? Pretty sure the taco approach will be no good here unfortunately :)

Plus you can just tap the right one when it loops back around to replace it. I’ve made almost 2000 loops in iKaossilator, you get used to just continuing to play until it sounds good.

I like to try to find my finger positions and just quickly raise and lower a finger to trigger its note. That way I can at least get consistent notes most of the time.
Also I like to hold my thumb in the bottom right corner of the pad so I can use rests in my pattern but keep the timeline going while recording silence into the loop where I want it.

  • Auria Pro!
    Neo Soul Keys Studio!

  • Two big ones:

    Cubasis
    Auria

  • On topic: couple years ago I would have said Fugue Machine. But I don’t have a use for it now. I guess BM3 or Egoist or some of those older classics I hear about all the time that are iPad only. PATTERNING I would definitely use the shit out of. Also Animoog because I would love to have the convenience of a 4 track looper built right in there.
