Exporting MIDI from Gadget (fixed)

I'm attempting to a export MIDI generated by Fugue Machine, via Gadget - as FM doesn't provide this option - to my desktop DAW. I've got all the channels lined up nicely, and Gadget has successfully recorded the four channels of MIDI. However when I export the four channels to Dropbox, via the General MIDI export option in Gadget, the resulting four MIDI tracks only contain a single note each.

So it seems there's something going amiss with the Gadget export, since the Gadget track itself contains all the notes.

Anyone else experiencing this? Wondering if I'm doing something wrong or this is a known issue, or if there's an easier way to export MIDI data from FM.

The Gadget song contains a single 16 bar pattern, long enough to record a full FM sequence.

Cheers

  • Which app are you using for the exported midi? The one where it shows one note only.

I'm dragging the clips into Reason on the desktop. Seems happy with all the other MIDI files I use, but doesn't seem to like these...

  • Ah ok, think I've sussed it. Seemed to be an issue when I dragged the clips into instrument tracks. By importing them instead first it picks up all the data.

    Lovely, sorted.

    Good stuff!

  • @MonzoPro can't you record directly from Fugue to Reason, using a USB to lightning? Does FM support Ableton Link?

Mebbee....that might be a shelf or two above my technical knowledge cupboard. I'll check it out though...

Just thought it would save that roundtrip through Gadget. Will have a play when I get a chance to figure out how to do it but I don't remember it being that difficult.

I had a look - im using Reason on the PC, and as Windows doesn’t have built in midi support, I’d need some kit to connect it via USB.

Not a big deal, the FM output is worth the Gadget/Dropbox fiddle.

  • MidiMux seems to enable this and only costs a couple of quid:

I think you have to run some kind of server on your PC but I believe that is a free download.

There is also a MIDI plus Audio version but that runs to about a tenner.
