Sorry, i don't get it. What exactly is the issue with controversial lyrics? They are controversial, hmm? Isn't art allowed to be controversial? Sorry, i just can't see the issue.

And hey, some folks don't like some lyrics. If you hate the idea of evolution you maybe hate songs about this theme. There are radio stations that will never play anticapitalistic songs. Because, you know. Take it as example. If you your ideology has some totalitarian aspects (like totalitarian libertarism and you call it your "freedom" to get rid of opposing views) you just don't want to hear some songs.

I am completely fine with that.

I really don't see how this matters until some views are nearly totally opressed in mass media. Oh, like anticapitalistic songs...

    ;-)

My wish: So, please stop this political discussions here, because it really does not affect us how we do songs (or whatever) with iOS software/hardware.

    P.S.
Did you know that Zappas "Bobby Brown" has been in the hot rotation of German radio stations for lots of years?

Please don't be offended. Take a look at the whole "discussion" no politics here, everybody here agrees that music and lyrics have a special place and is poking fun or points at stupid mistakes made by the authors of this USA today list.

So in essence it's better to do 100% instrumental music since all words can potentially get offensive over time...

“Words” by the BeeGees ......simply unacceptable by today’s standards :D
By the way even instrumental music has the potential to offend now or later..think it’s best to do something else other than making tunes :D

Don't forget the name of the band or artist name this also could trigger emotions. Sex Pistols, Butthole Surfers, Nashville Pussy, Circle Jerks and Rapeman.

Yes, even numbers like 666, 33 etc can cause a commotion. I suggest we all take a deep breath, get a trustworthy map and re-enter the mine field...

My neighbour, at no. 6, received a complaint because he had 3 bins each with a number 6 on it :|

I woz just trying to ‘ave a laugh about Beastie Boys parodies and stuttering.

Incidentally, the comedian Tony Hawks, who is one of the performers on the aforementioned parody wrote a book “Around Ireland, With A Fridge” which tickled my fancy no end back in the day.

I tried to emigrate to Ireland many years ago. Pushing a (very heavy) Saab loaded with my worldly valuables and a suboptimal clutch onto the ferry from Liverpool wasn’t a great start and should’ve prompted a reality check.

    But didn’t.

Strange days indeed, most peculiar Mama.

You bet. I discovered him in the 80s through student radio and had his stuff on vinyl then. About 15 years ago I was on his usenet group and ordered his mp3 set of all his stuff directly from him. Some albums I managed to get on CD. I can't believe The Island of Living Puke was never released on CD... or Ipecac. Those albums are classics.

  • Found a great YouTube channel with a lot of Zoogz. Many other great bands/albums/artists on this channel for my tastes.

  • I do feel that people today are more easily offended than say 20 years ago and the main-stream media is doing their very best to brainwash people to conform into a certain mindset. If that wasn't the case then the original video that started this thread would have never been made in the first place...

I don’t know. Sometimes it must feel that way, but I think it’s probably not very likely that human nature suddenly shifted within a generation.

I think more likely is the fact that people who once didn’t have a voice in media — gay people, immigrants, people of color, women — now, thanks to social media and online publications, DO have a voice. And they have some issues at how they have been portrayed in the past.

As a white male, I naturally have to deal with attacks that are generalized and seem unfair. But, oh well. Some are silly, but on the whole, valid. I try to keep in mind the phrase, “When you’re accustomed to privilege, equality seems like oppression.”

For anyone who is interested in a very rational exploration of this sensation, I recommend article I stumbled upon called “The Distress of the Privileged.”

I didn’t mean to insult your anti-Semitic ignorance. Pathetic that people like you feel confident espousing hate in a music forum.

‘Anti-semitism’.... i never spoke a bad word against anyone, especially arabic speaking people (semites). All i did was give you a picture that explains where your “white privilege” comes from. I’m not the one under mind control....

I’m all for people having a voice. Especially if they are able to express whatever they have to say in music. This is the good side of today’s world.

The negative is that some in previously disenfranchised groups want to suppress any thought that ‘offends’ them. Even when there was no such intent. Ultimately, hating someone because they are ‘white’ and ‘male’ Is just as stupid as hating someone for being gay or black.

Totally agree. Terms ending in -ism/ist and -phobic and _ privilege are just new terms used to invalidate, demonize and shut people up without any thought or discourse much like red and commie back in the 50s. Its a great way to divide society, not a great way to foster peace and understanding.
