Ho to connect iPad stereo output to mono instrument input.

Hello everyone. I'm struggling with best practice of connection iPad to my sound interface on my Mac/Ableton.

For instance I want to use my iPad as Hardware Instrument (lets say I'm running Moog Model 15 app) and I have stereo out. On my sound interface I have mono inputs.

How you guys solve this?

Thanks a lot.

  • You need a 3.5mm stereo jack- 2x mono 6.3mm phono lead like this;
    The red is the right-hand channel, the black is the left. Pan the left and right mono channels of your audio interface hard left & and hard right. You now have a stereo signal going into your interface.

  • In Ableton select inputs 1 & 2 as your audio input on the track you want to record on. This will give you a track that will record in stereo...........

    So that means I need to occupy 2 mono inputs of my sound card for iPad?

    Okay, thats a solution, the only thing my Audient id14 has only 2 inputs, which means I can connect only iPad no other hardware will be available.

    Thanks.

    Only if you want a stereo output/input. If you want a stereo out, mono in, use one of these.

  • In Ableton select either input 1 or input two on your record channel input. This will give you a track that will record in mono, leaving one more mono channel free ........

    Alternatively, use IdAM or studiomux. Either of these will leave both your hardware audio inputs free, as the audio is sent to your mac via a lightening-USB cable.

  • Thank you, iso.

  • Also, the ipad can be set to send out audio in mono, in settings/general/accessability - audio output to mono

  • Connecting iPad audio to instrument inputs is achievable by most people, not just those that work in the sex industry.
