Latency with newer wireless headphones when it comes to iOS music production?
My in-ear headphones have just died so I need to buy some new ones. I'd kinda like to go wireless now, but I'm worried about the latency with music production on my iPad. Is it essentially still impractical to go wireless and expect to compose anything constructive?

Just gave it a try with the bluetooth headphones I use when walking the dog, about a quarter of a second of very noticeable latency, unusable IMO. For music-making I say stick to wires.
I may buy one wireless and one wired! Can keep the latter in my iPad case.
I have Bose QC35's. There is quite a bit of latency. I have to use the cable to connect them when doing anything in a music app.
Or get wired and something like this

The silver bit comes out leaving a socket to plug headphone into or with the silver bit you can plug it into active speakers or your hifi etc.
Bluetooth is never near as reliable as analog. There’s no way i would use BT headphones for music production... just sayin’
I brought blue tooth head phones but made sure they had a line in also so I get the best of both worlds
Bluetooth for jogging , cable for music production
Latency is seriously bad, who knows in a year or 2 they may nail it, and then we won't be having this conversation,
Either way right now wire is the only option
Dont even dream about it. Maybe in 10 years when bluetooth has developed enough or when there will be a new wireless standard
Forget about trying to play or record live using Bluetooth. Too much latency. I doubt it'll get better until there's a more capable wireless standard (which I kind of doubt will come any time soon since the percentage of consumers for whom it's even an issue is so small).
For mixing and mastering, or if you're just sequencing parts, not recording live, I don't see why the latency would be an issue. But I'd wonder myself if fidelity or frequency response was being lost, thus affecting the mix if I was doing a final mix and master.
I have a pair of AirPods and the latency makes them totally useless if you want to actually play the instrument. As others have said, if you mostly work with sequencers (e.g. Fugue Machine, Patterning, et al), it won’t be an issue.
Bluetooth does use data compression, a bit like listening to an MP3 instead of a WAV....
Maybe not great for final mixing....but can be useful for checking a master on a different type of playback from your usual monitoring.
I do wonder why there are no proper 'WiFi' headphones as that would allow lossless transfer of audio with minimal latency...
I believe because BlueTooth was designed from the start as low-power and efficient in power usage and data transfer. There may also be a difference in chip size and antenna requirements.
Hi, For live playing BT isn’t good enough yet, maybe BT version 5 will change this, but it’s not out yet. However I’m perfectly fine doing sound design with BT speakers/earphones
