So I've been working on something orchestral in Gadget...
... and it's not quite done yet. So yes, I'm being kind of a jerk for even posting this. But that new Kapro Orchestral pack, some Salzburg piano, a couple of other odds and ends, turn quantize off etc... It is seriously unbelievable what can be created in Gadget when you maybe stray a bit from what it was probably designed for. I pretty much finished it tonight, and in the next day or 2 I plan to export the individual tracks so I can mix and master in my desktop DAW. Hope to post the finished song here in the next few days. But seriously folks, Gadget freaking rules.

I love Gadget as well, I compose my songs in either Gadget or GarageBand, depending on the mood and I think they're both awesome in their own ways. My SOTMC entry from March was done in Gadget using the Kapro cello (Pulled In By The Tide, you probably remember it as I recall your feedback on it). Once you start really poking around you can do all kinds of music with Gadget, and get all kinds of sounds from it.
Interested to hear the end result.
Why not try to (also) mix it in Gadget?
@R_2, I strongly considered it (just so I could avoid the export process), but there's a section where I'd really like to automate the master fader, which AFAIK isn't possible in Gadget. I'm also really intrigued with the idea of running the Gadget tracks through the Console Emulation channels I have in my DAW, and then using Ozone to master. But I definitely appreciate the suggestion!
@richardyot, I defintely remember that piece, I remember enjoying it quite a bit. In fact, I think I'll give it another listen shortly... I love the sound of the Kapro cello, but unfortunately it has an extremely quick release (or decay, I can't remember the name of the parameter). The sound just drops to almost nothing after maybe a second or two of holding a note, and then it springs back to maybe 75% of its original volume. So for moving, flowing lines, it's great, but for anything requiring a whole note it's virtually unusable for me. Bummer too, and I question whether that was actually the designers' intention or if something is a bit corrupted in my version of Gadget. I ended up using String Quartet 1 for some of my melodies/counter-melodies (which actually has a similar phenomenon, but not quite as pronounced as the cello, so I was able to work with it).
It’s basically the FL Studio of iOS, moreso than FLM3. If I recall, FL Studio (well, Fruity Loops back then) didn’t have VST support nor audio tracks right off the bat either but rather had native format synths like Sytrus, 3xOSC, TB404, Wasp, Directwave, etc. It didn’t even have a proper EQ until later on (only a simple 3-band to start with).
The native format synths you get in Gadget out of the box are far better than what FL Studio initially had in its Fruity Loops days. However, once FL DID have VST support, then you could basically do ANYTHING in it despite it being geared for EDM heads, just like with Gadget.
So, I assume you have all of the IAPs AND all of the compatible synths, right?
@jwmmakerofmusic, ha ha, no, not quite! I use Madrid quite a bit, and since I have Module and some of its IAPs I use Salzburg in many of my Gadget tracks. Also recently bought the Kapro packs for Glasgow which are really good. I have Gladstone and Bilbao but don't use them as much. I think that's it...
Finished mixing and mastering the track tonight in Cakewalk Sonar. Other than a couple of cymbal swells from Addictive Drums everything else in the piece is from Gadget. I'll do the online copyright thing in the morning and throw together a YouTube video. If all goes well I'll post it here sometime later tomorrow. It's actually the first project I've taken from start to finish in Gadget, so I'm pretty pleased.
