Midiflow & the BopPad - changing the cc messages to notes
I just bought Midiflow because I want to change the BopPad's cc messages to note messages. Here's what I'm trying to accomplish:
The BopPad can send MIDI cc messages based on the distance from the center of the pad (the radius). There are six zones from center to edge, and I'd like the ability to assign these six cc messages to six note messages. Then I'd like to assign a different sample to each of the six zones.
The BopPad is split into four quadrants, and I can map more than one sample per quadrant, but I end up with a layered sound, rather than each sample triggering independently.
Has anyone figured out how to get multiple samples per quadrant? I feel like this is possible, but I haven't figured out the right combination of elements. I believe Midiflow can do what I want, but between my non-familiarity with it and my general Midiocy I'm having trouble.
Help!

A couple of things: first, there's a Mac app (and Max support) on KMI's website that works flawlessly out of the box. Of course, that limits you to a Mac laptop. Second, I worked with Nic at Audeonic to work out the MidiFire streambyter script to do this and it works. Sorta... The main issue that I have found is that BopPad "lags" a bit with my MidiFire implementation so that it doesn't play the note when I switch "slices" of the quadrant as instantly as feels natural playing a melody, for instance. So, basically, I gave up and will wait until KMI develops an iOS app. I'm happy to share my MidiFire template with you if you'd like to give it a go.
interesting, would love to give the Midifire template a go myself
Saw the Mac app but yeah - no Mac.
Sweet that you developed a workaround through Midifire, but alas - no Midifire (only Midiflow)
Hmmm.... Lag you say? I guess I'll have to keep mucking about.
Thanks!
If you go to the BopPad section of the KMI user forums you'll see a thread about using Ableton's rack chain selector in a creative way. That user describes how the chain selector seems to "lag" in exactly the same way that it feels like my MidiFire template lags. Once I get home, I'll post my MF template here for anyone who wants to tinker with it.
