Minimoog Model D and Patterning with Strymon Deco (Video)

I made a video to show how Deco works with synths and drums, and used Minimoog Model D and Patterning. I thought maybe some of you would be interested to hear.

    You're welcome.

I wonder if anyone else here is using iOS synths with pedals or other external effects.

  • yep.. I'm running the pad through cooper fx generation loss, Alexander pedals syntax error, and a Roland scooper module.... much sample fodder fun

Those are nice pedals! I want to get a Syntax Error some time. That should be really interesting with different inputs.

  • Nice utility board! Do you find these significantly better than the available iOS effects?

Completely different in terms of sound and how you interact with that sound. The only one that iOS can’t do satisfactorarily in its own way is the Octave down, but the rest are really just another ‘flavour’ which adds a nice layer of immediacy to working with the sound.

IPad + pedals rules :) Recently been recording a bunch of experimental ipad sounds/loops in to the Rc300 to feed my Octatrack. Endless fun. Bad for my back though :/

Hey that's a really nice collection! Both the Warped Vinyl and Instant Lofi Junky? You must like vibrato a lot. Like I do!

yeah that is a nice setup.... I'm going for the outward, chase bliss warped hi-fi version, WMD Protostar Envelope Filter, and will finish off with some strymon capstan, timeline and the magneto and I'm done...

Thanks for heads up on the Wmd, looks nice! might check one out at some point. I'd been considering this pedal to replace the q-balls riddle for env filter stuff -

I like the EHX env filter in the Q-balls but it can be finicky to dial certain stuff and it sucks for shows cos it has a volume bump and no master volume setting :(

Wish I'd held off a little on grabbing the warped vinyl mkii, they announced the current version a few months after I purchased :/ possibly grab one at some point tho and start to build a smaller, separate dedicated board just for synths/ipad.

Magneto looks amazing. Not sure I can justify it tho, having el cap, timeline and organelle. For weird delay stuff there are some amazing patches in the Organelle ;) I'd love to grab a Tonal Recall tho... Delay is an addiction ;)

I use an Aphex Punch Factory after my Enigma (the bass version of riddle) to tame it. I find that the volume spike is very characterful and useful when it’s controlled (I get some crazy dub sounds by adjusting the start and end to hit those notches). Source Audio are awesome too though, I was previously an endorsing artist for them (technically still am but didn’t do anything with them for a long while). I love their Dimension Reverb pedal in particularly and have used it for a massive amount of stuff.

  • You’ll never go wrong by having two envelope filters! Both have their own character and can make some amazing and individual sounds. The Aphex comp is one of the smoothest I’ve ever used. Almost transparent and really natural sounding. I use it for end of chain compression.

Thanks, took a long time to amass but I feel pretty covered with that board now. Haha, yep I'm a sucker for warbly sounds :) Top left is a deco which rarely gets used for anything over than its warble setting.... Great pedal, I've just got in dumb habit of neglecting 95% of what it can do :/

I also use Deco mostly for that random vibrato sound. It's so unique but I wish it wasn't so subtle. It would be perfect if it had separate rate and depth controls for the lfo.
