Mame Betty - new song made with ... lot of apps!
Hello,
Here is my new song, made for my wife’s birthday ... which is today : )
I’ve put some work in this and I’m pretty happy with the result.
Production workflow: Blocs wave/AB/Gadget/Beathawk and various AU fxs for instrumental parts, then arrangement and sax recording is made in GarageBand/AUM IAA/AU fxs with Midi Link. Song is polished in AUM with Ddmf suite.
Note that I only use one sax. A tenor... and a pitching effect!! Everything is made on iPhone 7 Plus.
Hope you’ll enjoy!!

Excellent! Is the sax from Garageband?
Thanks. No I play the saxophone, a real tenor sax recorded in GB with iRig Pro IO, using pitch effect to emulate soprano and baritone saxes.
Love it!
Neat track, the sax really takes it places.
Nice work ! I was waiting for the Andy mclusky vocal to appear
Good work, Brother Janosax.
This is the kind of sax playing with feeling and skill, that we in RTM can but dream of accomplishing. We manage okay, faking it well enough on a few tracks, but you are the real deal.
The arrangement of the thick saxes reminded me of Wayne Shorter's work on Phantom Navigator. Nice sound!
Thanks for all kind comments. I’ve had great fun to do this track.
It took me around 6 hours for instrumental/sound design parts, and 4 hours for sax recordings/arrangement. Add one hour for mastering.
On iOS side, I used Blocs wave for drum loop with slice mode, bass is Madrid and organ Alexandria from Gadget, played on iPhone screen, both processed in AUM with Audio damage and FAC plugs. Percs are from BeatHawk and processed with FAC Transient and Maxima. Everything is recorded in Blocs wave. I wanted to do everything on iPhone, so I then exported loops in GarageBand and used loops mode to record saxes sections parts. As GB is bugged with AU rendering, I used effects in AUM as a GB input, with Midi Link for effects sync, so saxes parts are recorded wet. GB is bugged in loop mode some recordings don’t produce sound, you have to copy/paste loops to hear something, another big workflow issue with that app. I then played scenes to record arrangement and recorded processed saxes solos in arrangement view. Typical Ableton Live workflow, but slower with some bugs here and there. Add to this device is not as fast as it should after a while because of heat and CPU throttle, and I’ve reached some iOS limits concerning workflow efficiency.
But it was really fun to do, I’m happy with the result musically, and my wife had a big smile for her birthday
