Varying Ableton Link tempo from a controller

I would like to use a software controller (like Lemur) to be able to modify Ableton Link tempo dynamically/live. Does anyone know if this is possible?
I believe it would require one of the Ableton Link enabled apps to have tempo as a midi or OSC destination but I am relatively new to this (hence the post).

Many thanks David.

  • Sure, any app that has tempo control with MIDI learn should do the trick. Loopy springs to mind because it'll also allow you to control transport across Linked apps.

  • You’re correct. You just need one link enabled app that allows you to adjust tempo via midi. The rest should follow.

  • Awesome. Thank you. I will give it a try

Mixvibes "Beat Detect" might be interesting for you. The app has its flaws, tempo detection from music is unreliable, but the nudge feature (pull down or pull up the tempo) works quite well over Link and allows for matching the beat to other sources live while playing.
And it runs on iPhone too.

  • You might also check out the free app by Soundbrenner called "The Metronome".

It's not clear to me from the description whether or not you can map a midi controller to change the tempo - as was the OP's goal. It also doesn't say if it supports link. I suppose I could just download it, but try to avoid clutter where I don't need things.

Definitely supports Link (I have it on my phone), but you are correct that it doesn't seem to support MIDI mapping with a controller.
