  • I had this on my Android phone a long time ago. It is tracker based, so if you like old school limited workflow apps, you will dig this. The synths are very chiptune sounding. It was interesting, but really I found it a PITA to work with. I think it came as a GameBoy Advance modded cartridge originally, and the main draw of this app is the nostalgia of it all, if you remember the GBA version.

So, interesting and nostalgic, but not too useful, and not fun unless you dig trackers.

  • It’s interesting from a design perspective to see how much functionality they crammed in there in a pretty simple unclutttered interface. It takes a bit to get used to cause it’s wholly unique, but i was impressed. But it is definitely old as hell, with limited ios connectivity stuff, and is also basically just a bitchin little chiptune sequencer. But yeah it started out on gameboy and built enough of a fan base so it’s definitely some people’s thing

Originally Nanoloop was and still is a music creation for the Nintendo Gameboy.
Eventually it cane to IOS and android. i always had fun with it on the gameboy
If you have the PATIENCE it can be a powerful music making tool

  • It still works, you can export perfect loops to the Files app and store them where you want. It can create quite a wide variety of sounds and is very efficient and takes up little space on your device.

  • One of my perennial favorites

  • Can anyone please confirm that Nanoloop still works in the latest current iOS ?

    Confrimed

  • Also often overlooked with Nanoloop: you can switch projects without a hiccup. Do this.

You can also share entire projects as a simple text string via email which still kind of blows my mind; especially considering it samples.

  • Really awesome this one. Have it on iOS, Android and Gameboy
The sampling functionality leads to some really happy accidents

    Mind blowing is right.

This. Sampling, and 3 kinds of synths, all with P locks. Ur mobile soft, still going strong...what more do you need, really.

Wow. Never knew. How utterly cool. Have just had my 'long flight complicated project plans' changed entirely....

Good for you Nanoloop is just a fun minimalist approach to music making.....enjoy

  • I think I'm going to re-download Nanoloop to my iPhone 8 and give it a spin, it's been years...

Wonder if it supports Files.app now (updated 3 months ago).

Yepp! And that makes me quite happy as it makes it easy to get stuff in & out from the app :)
I have to be honest and say that the video above re-opened my eyes for the app with per step parameter changes etc.
I mean seriously, it's super easy to adjust sample offsets with the whole wave-form being shown while tweaking the offset.
And I had forgotten it had a 2OP FM synth built-in and that the LFO can be assigned to various parameters...

I've got a new 'friend' on my iPhone 8 :D

Wonder if it does 'landscape' on the iPad nowdays or if it's strictly portrait?

    Still portrait
Files app-wise it supports the backdoor access style: when in the Files app, one can access Nanoloop folder to drop stuff into. From the Nanoloop side, loading happens from in-app storage

Interesting to consider Nanoloop in light of Elastic Drums, or vice versa.

There’s a big rewrite of Nanoloop in beta on Android currently...very interesting

That is honestly the way I prefer to do it anyways?! :D

Already dropped in a bunch of Volca Sample samples...

Interesting to consider Nanoloop in light of Elastic Drums, or vice versa.

Yeah, just missing 'reverse' option for the sample playback but it's still loads of fun!

Yeah, I'm just surprised it was update 3 months ago and since I've not had it in any of my devices for ages it was a positive surprise!

Also the 'earlier' versions didn't have any scaling of the UI but now it's got that and also alternate colour theme.

The 'loop' option on the samples is pure glitch heaven, especially since it can be changed per step.

This will be loads of fun!

It’s a masterpiece of its kind

Very cool app! Even better on Android at the moment as it has a 'meta step' function: play a step only every 2nd time.. You can't do this on iOS..

Yep, and the song mode sequencer is much more intuitive. And synth/sound design has changed a lot as well

Indeed and it's loads of fun. The 'trim' function took a while to find but now it makes perfect sense (Just set offset and loop and tap the X to cut the slack. Why can't UVI add that kind of simplicity to BeatHawk LOL).

Sure it ain't got support for 'deprecated' IAA, AB3 AUv3 but it's got a smooth export feature and the 'fun-factor' is really hard to beat!!

Will have to check how well the built-in file-manager handles folders created using Files.app as that would make sample management a bit smoother :)

I'll definitely keep an eye out for future development of Nanoloop, it's a real GEM!

  • I love nanoloop. To me it is a perfect mobile music-making app: you can make something satisfying very quickly, and it also rewards you if you spend time learning it. It's incredible that it has been going for so long. Major kudos to the developer.

(And it was certainly a major influence on the UI design of my app, which is probably obvious to anyone who has used both.)

Love Klankwelle, man! Now I gotta try running Nanoloop and Klankwelle together :yum:

I also miss 'broken chords' (ie. chip arpeggios).

But man, this is so much fun :)

Not sure how is the development going. I tried the beta on my android device and it always crashed on startup. Sent oliver the feedback, but he didn't return.

If i'm not wrong, he was working on a hardware nanoloop too. Maybe that's taking his time

I had the same issue with the Android beta, crash on startup, and also wrote the developer. An update dropped since, and I also started opening the app with the device already oriented in portrait. That, or the update cleared up the crashes. It may also depend on the device. I’m using a Huawei tablet, and a Samsung 9 phone

That's true. Last iOS update to nanoloop was about 3 months ago (6th of April).

I'm happy it's gotten Files.app support and even without sub-folder support it's plenty usable.
It's so fun to make short loops, export and load them to the file-player in AUM.
(Would be awesome to export each instrument as a separate file).

It's the limitations that make nanoloop so much fun!
