Anyone make their own Apple Loops for GarageBand?

Hey I can’t test this out at the moment, I’m at work, but I’m just wondering if anyone knows how Apple Loops works?

When you make a loop for GarageBand, If you’re not telling the info window what key and bpm it is, is apple just guessing? Is it gonna fuck that up? Or for that matter, does it pitch shift (any of the) loops when you change the key of your song?

I mean, it’s not trying to make every single loop pitch with every single other one is it? If not then is it just labeled for your information?

In short, does it work very well making your own loops for GarageBand?

  • I haven’t experimented with making lots of loops. But recently I enabled time stretching on on an entire vocal performance because I needed to change the tempo of the song. It was surprisingly transparent

I’ve done similar little things with the occasional custom loops and it seems to work every time. It might be taking the tempo and key from project settings.

  • You can make Apple loops in BeatMaker 3 by slicing a sample into slices and then selecting save as Apple loop. You can then import the aiff file into BeatHawk and use it as a loop by selecting it in the pads and choosing the keyboard icon. Each slice will then correspond to a MIDI note.

That is very cool. Thanks for the workflow tips. :)

Thanks for this golden tip. A while back I tried importing some old apple loops from my desktop into Beathawk with no success, because of clicks and pops. Hopefully apple loops created with BM3 can play them inside Beathawk without the clicks and pops.
