SEAQUENCE: You Will Absolutely Love This!!

Hi, well it is 3:30 AM Istanbul time and I just completed a journey through all 857 synth apps at appshopper! I saw all the greats and not so greats on my odyssey and somehow I downloaded SEAQUENCE for free ($6.99 if you want it all, but what they give away is incredible) and I am here to tell you it is a beautiful thing!

Visually satisfying in its own unique aquatic milieu, SEAQUENCE allows you to join in the microbial party with saline saturated ease and make it your own. Beware, though, it is rather gentle and pacific at first. Still it can become rather crustacean at times. But it is best if this little pearl speaks for itself. Please take a look at this really sensual and enchanting musical and visual experience.

I am sorry I do not even know how to create a link, but search the AppStore for SEAQUENCE and take a serene sonic slip into a hip hydraulic trip! Just a little Memorial Day gift from the Devs to all of us who really care about this stuff. Andy Plankton, can you hear me?!

  • Yes it’s a beautiful app!

  • If you just use the basics of the app it can be great. The midi expansion is broken, unfortunately. So I don’t recommend upgrading.

How is it broken. I’m currently sequencing 4 synths on separate channels in AUM with it without any issues.
Maybe try adjusting your midi latency in Seaquence Settings.

This was a while back and I had wrote the dev with the specifics, but he didn’t have a solution at the time. I think it was an issue where every time I switched between the two it would stop sending midi. Hard to recall, but I did do a lot of troubleshooting and came up with nothing. Hasn’t been an update since.

Hrmmm. Try it again and mess with the Midi Latency in the Seaquence settings view and see if that fixes things for you.

    Will do!

I love seaquence, but it’s midi out isn’t working at all for me. Yes, I paid for the full midi unlock early on, just after launch.

Tried delete & reinstall. Worked very briefly sending notes to Animoog standalone, then stopped. Doesn’t work at all sending to AUM for me. Tried reset ram, hard reset, everything. No dice.

Midi out used to work great though. I’m guessing one of the iOS updates broke it. Haven’t seen an update in nine months. Pity. Hope it gets fixed.

Weird. I’m on 11.3.1 and had it sequencing 3 instances of Zeeon and Model 15 in AUM.

Try adjusting the Midi Latency in Seaquence.

  • Yeah I think there’s a little critter in the midi but I think it works by enabling then quit app and restart. I don’t quite remember but I’ll check it out and report.

  • edited May 2018

It’s weird, because it briefly started working out of nowhere for about a minute then stopped again.

Another thing that’s odd is that after I deleted and reinstalled, it didn’t ask me to restore purchases... but midi controls were on anyway.

@echoopera I did mess with the midi latency slider and was also trying with AUM, Zeeon, Model D, Pads, etc.

Will try again later and see if it works on my iPhone since I’ve got the same installs there.

  • It works just tried it with AUM and LayR.

In AUM create track add LayR and set midi all channels and in Seaquence enable midi out but you must click on one of the creatures and select which channel it sends on.

  • Enable disable midi while in the settings page of Seaquence and disable enable audio engine. This is what I remember triggers the midi to start outputting. But make sure I the critter screenshot to notice on the upper right hand the midi out channel for each critter. Scroll up or down to select from the 16 midi channels.

  • Thanks, but I know how it works. I was pimpin this app from the beginning and bought the IAP immediately. It’s not working on my iPhone either.

  • The couple of times it briefly worked, it wasn’t playing the sequence I set up for the critter. Was playing something completely different. And, after I cleared and deleted all critters with no sequence at all, it was still playing some phantom sequence until I force quit out.

Seaquence wont launch at all if I start AUM first.

    Same on my iPad.

I’ve got a couple other beta apps installed. Maybe one of them is causing some internal conflict with the iOS

  • @MusicMan4Christ & @echoopera are both of you running latest iOS and lastest version of Seaquence?

I’d assume so, but its odd it won’t work on my iOS11.3.1 iPhone OR 10.5

I’ll look again. It almost has to be user error if it’s working fine for both of you.

  • Alright good to know I wasn’t the only one!

  • Yeah I’m in latest on an iPad 2017. But it worked perfectly on my Aut 1 too. The trick is to first tap on the creature and select the midi channel out on that screen. Then in the settings page of Seaquence enable disable midi or audio and revert back to AUM and see if audio is being triggered. Made sure AUM is the Out outbid Seaquence.

Dude, I appreciate you telling me “the trick” but I’ve already tried all of this a couple dozen times now.

I’ve deleted and reinstalled after hard resets on two devices. Doesn’t work. I can’t even freakin launch Seaquence at all if I launch AUM first.

In my case, there’s no “trick” to get it working. It simply isn’t for some reason.

    Giving up for now. Thanks

ps. If you have to switch stuff off/on a few times to get it to work, that would indicate to me that even though you can get it to work, there’s something not right.

I just tried again and no change.

@MusicMan4Christ one last thing, if you launch AUM first, will Seaquence launch after? It doesn’t for me. Fails every time. Same in iPhone and iPad. And, I’ve deleted and reinstalled Seaquence on both. Only way to get AUM/Seaquence running at the same time is if I launch Seaquence first.

Otherwise, the app works fine as long as I’m not trying to use its midi out

  • You’re right it doesn’t work

So, when you launch AUM first, Seaquence doesn’t launch for you either?

Also, when I can get it to briefly work, then delete the only critter I have, and completely clear the field, it’s still playing until I force quit out.

Keep in mind, I was playing with this app since launch. I was one of the first few who were trying to spread the word on it. I believe I was actually telling you about it initially too before you bought the IAP.

It’s pretty straight forward how it works. It’s interface is intuitive and well designed. It worked fantastic for me for several months. Why it isn’t now is baffling.

Even more baffling is why it’s working fine for you and @echoopera

I’d assume there’s some kind of corruption on my iPad because it’s working for you, but it’s not likely I’d have the same corruption on my iPhone too.

Best I can speculate, is that one of the 3 or 4 beta apps I have installed on both my iphone & iPad are causing some kind of conflict. Other than that, I don’t have any idea why it’s not working like it used to.

Love the app and I like this developer, but I’ve run out of things to try. Thanks for the feedback though :)

  • No worries bro. Yeah when I try it like you mentioned it doesn’t work and yes sometimes I have to force stop the music in AUM cause it keeps playing even tho the app is stopped. You got me in troubleshooting mode now. But it’ll have to wait as I’m really busy this weekend. I’ll seeing I can post a short video of how I do it.

Yeah, I know most in the U.S. are busy this holiday weekend. I’ve been in California for the last 3 weeks with limited connectivity, helping on a friend’s vineyard/ranch, going to sweet wine tastings, spectacular hikes, trips to the coast, etc. in between ranch/vineyard work that is.

So, since I just got home I’m content to stay away from crowds, in AC, watching TV, and wasting time troubleshooting iOS audio apps that I haven’t even opened in months! LOL ;)

@MusicMan4Christ @skiphunt Seaquence does have significant MIDI issues and it won’t stay open after I’ve opened AUM first.

    1. open Seaquence first
    2. open AUM
    3. send MIDI notes and CC to AUM from Seaquence
    4. apps in AUM play
    5. press the pause button in Seaquence
    6. Seaquence continues to send out MIDI to AUM
    7. Turning off the AUM MIDI source to AU apps hosted in AUM will stop the notes from playing.
    8. If I wait long enough, the notes will stop playing by themselves although I have had some hanging notes too.
    9. When I go to press play again, I get no MIDI notes.

I can replicate this behavior using Seaquence to send MIDI to MidiFire and MidiFire sends out MIDI which AUM sends to the AU apps it’s hosting and it plays the first time, hit pause, continues to play then stops, but doesn’t send out MIDI again when you hit play in Seaquence. Hopefully the developer will track down these MIDI issues.

Yep, that’s pretty much consistent with what I’ve experienced too. Thanks for the confirmation.

I really like this app. It’s basically fun to play around with, but can produce very nice compositions. The built-in sound engine is good, but very cool to also control external synths too... when it’s working.

  • I guess i was lucky then with the above example cause it was routing fine to the AUM setup with 4 synths.

Can you do it again? I’m not challenging or doubting you. It’s just strange that the midi seems so screwed up on both my devices, with others reporting similar behavior, but you say it’s working fine for you.

I can see how it might work for a short while though. In my most recent troubleshooting, it almost works as it used to for maybe a couple minutes tops, and then “poof” it’s like all the midi channels get bluntly cut off.
