Korg and Propellerheads Team Up: Reason Lite, Free

So this is interesting. Kind of messes with the fantasy that Reason is coming to iOS, maybe. But it seems that if you buy or have bought a Korg controller, you get Reason Lite free of charge.

    Not a bad deal...

*Korg customers will now receive Reason Lite and the new Drum Sequencer free with select products, offering a powerful and intuitive music creation experience *

    Not just a drum Seq...

  • With them both supporting Allihoopa I’m not super surprised. When I got my Nanokey Studio it came with a copy of Reason Adapted, which is replaced by Lite? There’s been a few name shuffles lately. Either way it’s pretty cool :)

  • Cool, I have a nanokey studio. I did just buy reason lite a few weeks ago though, not that I'm complaining. I'm not complaining or anything. I'm not mad.

  • I own a few micro keys from before, so I guess I can just go and download reason light for free if I want.

I'll probably pass though because I'm stubborn and set in my ways. I already have too many options for doing things.

Maybe you can sell your license (extra) ... 😉

Definitely considering that. Though I recently got burned trying to buy a software license and it's made me wary. I was able to get my money back promptly (thanks PayPal buyer protection) but it was annoying to deal with.

  • Ooh that nanopad2 I never use just proved useful!

  • It also comes free with some Akai stuff at the moment. Mpd232 for example

  • I'd say that the topic should rather be 'Propeller Head teams up with Brand X' to push more copies of Reason since it's pushed out with just about all recent controllers nowdays. It's the same deal as with Ableton Lite :)

True, but if Props, repeat the upgrade option to full Reason, then it's a reasonable inexpensive way to get the full version of Reason.

  • Europa is damn cool machine!
I d never thought they throw it in this package. That was a super nice and kind surprise. Like the workflow of Reason

Ok, so who wants to sell/trade a license?

Edit.. or who is feeling generous?

    That Drum/Note Seq...

  • edited May 2018

Pretty nice, got the Lite version as I have an Akai mpd218
Thanks for pointing that out :)

  • They also just released Europa as a VST/AU for desktop. Free for Reason 10 owners!

It’s a proper beastly synth so I’m really glad to be able to integrate it into my primary workflow. Easier to dig into than Alchemy but more complex than Ableton Wavetable — kind of a goldilocks synth if you ask me.

They’ve even made a browser version, which is just crazy. A wee bit crackly over here, unfortunately, but my laptop’s older than most.

  • I got Reaon Lite free with an Akai controller a few weeks ago. Does anyone know if the new Drum Sequencer is free for Akai kids too?

  • I was excited to see the word mobile dropped in the Propellerhead blog post accompanying the Europa announcement.

"Some of you might wonder if there’s a longer thought behind this release and if it indicates a change in how we think about Reason, how much resources we put into it, if there’s a shift to how we think about updates etc? The answers is no. We can do multiple things at a time. We’ve created this VST/AU. We’re working on a mobile app."

I guess it's unclear if it's in reference to Europa mobile (make ALL the formats!), Reason mobile or something else entirely, but it's encouraging to see it mentioned again.

it's available for free here until tomorrow 31st

  • Kinda wish ROLI got on that bandwagon as well. Tracktion Waveform 8 and Ableton Live Lite 9 aren’t current versions but Reason 10 Lite is the latest.
Of course, it’s even more limited than Reason 10 Intro (8 tracks instead of 16).

Was anyone able to download the drum sequencer. Couldn’t get it to download to the authorizer.

Yep! I searched the shop for sequencer. Then it showed up and was... free. Took me some time to get it to work :)

Yeah, but unfortunately not for the reason lite (with Korg for free) reason owners ;)
