universal versions of apps to come?... maybe... hopefully?

I’m still frustrated with apps only being available for ipad and not iphone. My favorite and most used apps are still not available for iphone. Like Cubase, Beatmaker 3, Patterning, Sector, etc. Does anyone have any insite into when/if any of these will go universal?

Comments

  • I had been holding my breath that Patterning 2 would be Universal, but it seems like it never will be. That's the one that I really want.

  • Some Interfaces just get too complicated for a good user experience on smaller displays.
It’s a never ending struggle in app development...
Good interfaces/experiences do not always fit on small/phone screens.

  • true, that does seem to be an issue with the screen size issue. Maybe they could make a modified version, or a effecient zoom in out option to supplement that lack of screen real estate?

  • I’m waiting on a few that have been announced for iPhone ‘sometime in the future’ but without any definitive date. BM3 and NeoSoul Keys Studio for example.

As a mobile designer, I don't believe that to be true. However, designing good interfaces/experiences can be VERY hard - and if you're an independent developer creating amazingly awesome musical apps and only charging the going rate of $3-$10, hiring the expertise needed to make the leap would wipe out any profit (which may be needed for things like: eating, shelter, etc.). Plus, more people I'm sure use iPads than iPhones for music.

I, for one, only ever use either my iPhone or a PC, never an iPad. So I'm with you on this dream of "universal" as new apps come out over time - I don't expect those already released to become universal, though sometimes I get surprised.

Intresting, I wish I knew coding language better. I’ve tried, and my brain just doesn’t process info that way. As a graphic designer, I can visualize exactlly what I would love to see in apps on a iphone. I have the tools and know how to produce it visually, it’s just the code that I’m lost on. I believe it can be done by these developers, by as you said, if the money isn’t practical for their time. It probably won’t happen.
Hopefully someone can produce a clean and fast Daw for the iphone soon. I really thing there is a market out there for it.

  • BM3 will be an instabuy when it happens. The ability to be able to start on iPhone when inspiration comes to you then iPad when at home is absolutely essential. Also I listen to my music on headphones whilst walking around and quite often make small changes whilst walking. This isn’t possible on an ipad. I would be happy to pay double for universal or as an IAP in BM3.

I absoulutly agree.! I’d pay double, for universal. Or pay seperate for a iphone version of the app. either way.
