5.1/multi channel sample & loop triggering in ios?

I'm working on doing sound design for a local theater production, and the venue has a 5.1 surround system in place for movies, sooo, I was wondering if there are any sample playing ("sound board"?) apps that can do multi channel audio? Something where I could label the sounds and have some big squares to hit and make them play? Sound effects, background ambient noise, backing music, that sort of thing.

My first choice would be an ios solution, but barring that, what would you use on mac? Kontakt? I would probably do the sound design in Logic, so I think I could do it with the exs24 in Logic, but wasn't sure about how to trigger the sounds, besides a midi keyboard with masking tape labels on every key. Which wouldn't be the end of the world, but this seems like a good use for a touch screen.

I could come in to the board (behringer X32) digitally, via usb and CCK.

Beatmaker 3 looks like it has hardware channel output options per pad, and per bus, might dig in with that.

Hiccup: Plugged in to the X32, "the connected device requires too much power". :/

  • Got it going with a powered hub. Crackled. Changed x32 sample rate to 44.1 (from 48). Was better for a minute, minor crackles, then crackle city. Nevermind, ios. Guess it's time to find a desktop solution.

  • Ended up using QLab on Mac, and got a cool quadraphonic thing going. It is a really great piece of software- you program in your list of audio cues, and hit the space bar to advance to the next one. It can do fades to the audio on command, and multi channel audio, as many outputs as your sound card. It also can do midi, Osc, DMX, and video cues. Very cool, for anyone doing multimedia shows

They make an iOS version called Go Button, it looks like a great app for playing backing tracks, better than iTunes, because it will play one track and then stop and wait for the next cue from you, to play the next track.
