Oh defintiely, the market has changed massively over the last few years. It's no longer a level playing field, and even with a great product or idea a small company can still be buried by the tech giants. I guess it's a toss-up between keeping your independence or getting a wheelbarrow full of cash - if you're lucky enough to have the opportunity.
Or lucky enough to be able to refuse.
There’s a lot of “well I’d do this in the same situation so surely everyone should think the same” going on.
You’re now calling me an asshole too ? And the reason for that educated deduction is ?
@Zen210507 I did a couple (very few) grab on sales myself - but on stuff considered highly suspective regarding my personal use - and in fact none of them is on duty anymore.
Otherwise I'm used to pay for tools and count costs versus years of undisturbed usage.
IOS is a bit special as most of my purchases (majority in the audio domain) were spawned by a general interest in the technology itself, but at least 'support your developers' was always on my mind - as that's what I'm used to anyway with some niche products as main tools.
Btw I see a lot of parallels in this forum and the Creamware community 15years ago.
In particular a constant request for this and that feature/plugin etc ... and when something was released (there was outstanding stuff even in today's measures) the shouters all kept their wallet closed. Some of the best and talented developers left.
Facing the facts: it's brands that sell in the 1st place. Quality is a minor aspect.
There are exceptions, like Valhalla DSP which is Shawn Costello or Mike Scuffham's S-Gear. Both keep costs at an absolute minimum with their 'one man show' approach.
But there will never be the 'big money' with such enterprises - perfectly ok for some, but others might be more tempted.
(guessing from overhyped startups with amazingly flat concepts that sold for millions)
I don't think the app price model (as is) will compensate for real professional audio tools.
Professional in the sense of reliable and convenient to use, workflow centered.
It's often the most simple things that take the most effort, a lot of that hidden below the surface.
well, Monzo answered to my very real situation... and I called myself an idiot more than a couple of times to pass THAT opportunity.
Which is still much lower than the ususal percentage in forums (or mankind in general). Makes me assume this forum is a quite good place to be.
Is there? I thought everyone was simply sharing their experiences of similar situations, or what they’d do if they had the same opportunity.
Personally I once jumped ship and regretted it. But each scenario is going to be different so I could just as easily do the same again if it looked like a good deal.
I’m commenting hypothetically anyway, no-one would employ a washed up old twat like me now.
@MonzoPro Lol course someone would, you’ll have a valuable set of skills to someone. Finding each other is the hard part
To everyone else I should have just kept quiet. I took a chunk of what I read as a lot of presuming of other people’s motives and status and didn’t like it. Thought I’d stand up for the not-presuming brigade and bungled it. Sorry guys.
You lot carry on and I’m zipping it
Way to go supporting completely unwarranted abusive commentary 👍
I think our mission just now as early adopters is to bring more people into the iOS music world...
I’ll try my best to convince desktop musician that iOS have come a long way nowaday, and that an nice and newer iPad can be a real substitute, at least on travelling and occasions that mobility is important...
If more people join the iOS music community the developer can sell theirs “old “ apps to new people (we others have so much already)...
Personally, ive invested more than $3000 in software for my iPads/iPhones since 2008, so I’m not the guy to convince ;-)
But, a lot of the survival issue for the developers lays on Apple Inc. and the strategy they come up with...
First of all, split that silly category Music into make music versus listen to music!
We need a dedicated category now on Appstore!
I hear ASDA will be recruiting rotund elder male folks with white hair and beards in about 6 months time !
I haven’t got a beard Andy. Even ASDA don’t want me!
You are so right!
Make that 3 assholes...........

Homeboy, slow your roll.
If you read the thread(my thread actually) I was making a comment in regard to Win admitting to being a dick.
I was therefore making light that between him and I that now made 2 assholes on here.
Don't be so reactionary and hyper confrontational.
I am here to have lighthearted, informed, and sometimes immature fun with people who 9/10 know me and what my posting style is.
Relax.
Cut the elastic on the panties and lets start over for the sake of it is a great day to make music and talk about it.
Where I am from, busting balls and self degradation are the norm.
As long as I don't take myself to serious.
As for me this is probably as close as I get to an apology. Accept or not, I am being 100.
All the best.
Sick phcuk.
@RUST( i )K i guess I mistook your commentary the wrong way. My mistake. I appreciate your reply and apologise for the misinterpretation. Love not war. Music not hate. Yadda yadda
Good deal!
All good my brother
The @universe is once again at peace.
'As best you can?" Renamed the three gerbils: Git, Tar and Rism. Shall fatten em up and the cash the Chinese takeaway give me for their version of Peking duck, shall go to the dev.

This is a problem we all get from time to time. Not being able to see each other’s faces, and the differences in cultural norms, plus autocorrect messing up words can all conspire against civilised discussion.
I recall when I was lurking here, not yet posting, and saw someone’s comment that he ‘kept his shit in his car.’
A phrase guaranteed to raise a smile for most Brits, but normal speech in sectors of US society. Similarly, Brits may routinely say stuff like bugger that, , which literally translated is not at all what we mean.
What's wrong with Apple assimilating all the developers, they can then work together on the dark side, sorting out the .....
I was confused by that original comment, too. Way more than 2 around here.
I agree with LL. And I don’t recall you ever being a dick, @wim. Maybe expressing frustration sometimes, but still always cool about it. You are an AB forum champion, my friend.
I confuse myself sometimes.......
LOL
