To avoid having to use the computer...

    • Download IR files to your iPad and "Open In..." AudioShare (or DL straight into AudioShare)
    • In Auria, select "Import Audio...from AudioShare" and select your IR files
    • Back in Auria, go to the file view and drag & drop IR files into the "IR" folder
    • Now there ready for use in the convolution reverb!

*Sorry Derek just wanted to share an alternative way that eliminates the PC

  • Haha!!! Thanks...I'm an idiot. I was trying to do this the whole time, but was dragging in the wrong place. It seemed nothing would move (have to hold and drag on the very left side of the file...lol. Thanks man!

This is cool, but even on A7 processor I get a message that convolution reverb can't be used with audiobus (256 or 512) due to low latency requirements. BUT, with just Auria running even at 128 buffer size, it lets me open the convolution reverb. What's up with that?

  • @Ringleader yeah, I don't know. I really wanted to try this with Ampkit...but the whole audiobus thing stumped me. Works fine with just Auria and Overloud. I'm trying to get to the bottom of this

  • Overloud in Auria. Tested with RedWirez cab impulses. Clean channel is Fender Twin with Jensen c120. Lead is Mesa/Boogie left and Soldano right. Ampkit for bass, Drum Session, and Alchemy Mobile water patch for synth.

  • Getting Auria and Audiobus to work together always stumps me too lol.

  • Convolution reverb is disabled when Auria is in Audiobus mode. It's intentional. There's nothing you can do about it.

  • I still don't get how to move the files from audioshare to the IR folder. I hit the import from audioshare, it takes me to audioshare. I hit the button on audioshare to import into Auria. It takes me to the tracks page in Auria. I go to the files area in Auria into the IR folder. Then? Where is the paste button, or how does that work?

    Thanks guys.

  • @sealpt once you've imported from AudioShare... Go to Auria. In menu, press import audio. You should see the files there. Drag them by holding the left side of the file and put them in the IR folder

  • Thanks Bro.

  • Hey Derek, why does you're convolution reverb show all those presets? I only show all the amps I put in there.

  • Hmmm...don't know. You want them? I'll send them to you!

  • Yeah, is there an easy way to do that?

  • I'll have to do it tomorrow via iFunbox and Dropbox you a link. @sealpt

  • Sounds good. I got all the other ones into Auria but don't have my guitar here. I'll give it a shot tomorrow. Thanks brotha.

  • @sealpt as far as I know...the other ones are factory presets for the convolution reverb....actual reverb settings...they are pretty cool. You're gonna die when you play through those cab replacements. One thing I've found...the stock presets in Overloud sound great...hold the cabinet and hit the x to remove it. Add a noise gate to the chain (hold it and tap the arrow to place in the front of the chain.) then load your cab replacement in the convolution reverb. Always have Overloud in the first slot, then convolution reverb.

  • Sounds good. I'll give it a shot tomorrow. Thanks bro.

  • Thnx for sharing this vid Derek.

I was late to learn about the whole IR world so if anybody else reading this is too, here's a good primer:

    http://www.guitarampmodeling.com/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=2452&start=0

  • IR files for use as cab replacements have been around for quite a while now....and a ton of people use them with most desktop guitar amp software...I'm currently awaiting responses from several developers of vst amps and cab loaders to see about implementing them into Auria. Guitar amp modelling site is a good place to research this kind of thing. If you have desktop DAW's I would suggest looking into Le Poulin amps and his cab loader...also check out TSE Audio as well. There's a ton of information out there...and a ton of great resources to pull from...I'm on a mission to help bring some of this over to iOS. I recently spoke to the guys at Ampkit and IAA is next on their list...so this means cab replacement for this as well in Auria...along with some bass amps too! Exciting. Hopefully Amplitube will have an option to bypass the cabinets as well...

Found this older thread because I recently bought Auria and was looking for information about THM Overloud, which is the $20 guitar plug-in that runs within Auria. Running Auria on iPad2 has actually gone better for me than I thought, and it pretty much does fine recording guitar tracks through AudioBus. The memory issues pretty much only rise to the surface when you use effects, automation, or a ton of active tracks. But I was still interested in Overloud because of the convenience of having a plug-in for simple guitar parts that doesn't even require IAA, let alone AudioBus.

This IR stuff is pretty cool, and I got a test IR for a Marshall Plexi using Derek's suggestions above. The clean tone that results is actually terrific, but I just don't think this is going to be feasible on iPad 2. If you run nothing else but Overloud and the Convultion Reverb plug-in (for the cabinet sim), it was resulting in pretty terrible clicking and latency.

My other iDevice is an iPhone 5s, which should have plenty of speed. I've read that there are other apps that do this, including Fiddlicator, which has been released and joined the Bus since this thread:

    https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/fiddlicator/id813106474?mt=8

Would it be possible to run one of the other guitar amps into Fiddlicator in the FX slot and get a similar effect? I may have to try this. So, it would be:

ToneStack (w/ cabinet removed) --> Fiddlicator (with custom IR file loaded) --> DAW/Output app

I'm still trying to grasp how this works, exactly - my understanding is that an IR is basically a very brief .wav clip that "reverse engineers" the sound characteristics of a static amp sound, and then allows you to play a flat EQ signal into it to simulate that sound. Right?

Edit: Crap, Fiddlicator is iPad only. Thought it was universal. Rooms! is universal, but it's $7.99 for the convultion reverb download

  • @StormJH1:

There's another convolution reverb app on the horizon, for both iPhone/iPad,
called AltiSPace, by the maker of AudioMastering, Master FX and Master Record. It has been submitted so it might appear in the next week or so, for an introductory price.

    samples sound really good:

  • I think your concept of how IRs work is mostly correct @StormJH1. I say mostly, because the IR file can capture the acoustic properties of more than just an amp. It can also capture physical rooms, cathedrals, arenas, etc.

  • @StormJH1
I ran your set up just fine on my iPad 2. I installed custom IR's using GoodReader, bypassing a computer altogether

I did the same (used AudioShare and "open in" for the IR file), but you need a preamp. Running the preamp PLUS the convultion reverb stresses out the CPU and causes terrible stuttering. I suppose I could try 1024 frames in AudioBus.

  • @TGiG - Update: I tried this again but used AmpKit+ this time as my preamp. It worked great. I started on 1024 but wasn't having any clicking, so I went to 512, and it was still good. I could record audio clips, and the cabs sounded really good. Now, I didn't try it with a DAW - I do suspect there'd be some issues running all that with the convultion reverb. But it's a neat way to get new sounds.

So, this is all still new to me - what is the appeal of these IR cabinets versus simple modeling software? The ones I loaded had a nice full sound. But I think the preamp you choose in the software still has an impact on the tone (I tried it with a Fender Twin and a Vox AC30 preamp)
