iPulsaret or iDensity
Default position is both, of course.
I’m sure one of these days that will be the case.
Opinions are solicited for the following:
- Which first?
- Differences between the two?
- Especially from those who have both, how are you using it?
Any input is appreciated. Thanks.

I would pick, only if I had to, iDensity. I love them both and it is only my personal preference only because it is very cool to load up 6 waves and mash them together and bend them into something else if they like it or not.
You won’t be disappointed with ether one. You will only be disappointed with only one.
I have neither, but one thing to consider is that ipulsaret is not au whereas idensity is. Also consider waiting for the release of Audiodamage Quanta before making your decision.
I don't have iPulsaret, but you would never regret owning iDensity if your into making weird soundscapes, drones, & cinematic strangeness. It's definitely one of my favourite apps, and never fails to inspire. I don't find myself using the AU version, if that helps at all.
I'm not really a sales kinda guy so much, so I like iPulsaret. It was my first granular synth and it's so much fun to space out with. That and Stria are a blast to mess with if you've got lots of time and no end game....
The AU version of Idensity needs an update. It doesn't respond to start/stop and the x knob to delete a recorded performance doesn't work when I try to use it inside Cubasis or AUM.
Idensity is a soundscaper similar like Borderlands designed to record perfomances touching the screen. Ipulsaret works like a synth and can play chords (polyphonic) for super rich sounds. Ipulsaret also supports an inbuilt synth instead of using samples only.
I have iDensity, iPulsaret and Stria.
iDensity is by far the most fun, and useable for reasons stated already. iPulsaret, can produce sounds not dissimilar to so called ghost boxes, and at times becomes quite eerie. Stria, I think of as an alien langauge comms device. I don’t speak the language, of course, but enjoy listening in.
Love iDensity, brilliant for soundscapes
Your name should be “Smart Reasoner”...
Thanks for the reminder. I’m getting lost trying to keep track of upcoming releases.
That starts my list of two.
First on the list Synthmaster One with the Blue Skin.
Got the synth, need some Blue skin.
Idensity and Quanta and iPulsaret are all different beasts. Quanta claims to be a granular synth made easy without obscure language and interfaces. Most of Apesoft stuff is a bit obscure and out there but both idensity and iPulsaret useful and intriguing tools. If your mix is missing something that is totally unique and different then you can’t go wrong with either. As said above, iPulsaret is more a synth and idensity is a sampler. Idensity supports auv3 and iPulsaret is IAA only. I’ve used both for over a year and still enjoy the new sounds I come up with. Well worth the $ for both.
iDensity first
You’ve touted iPulsaret before and I’m diving back in on your recommendation. You’re right, iPulsaret is a magnificent gem! Love me some iDensity too like crazy 😜
Quick question: I’m editing the lala preset called “Gas” and in the grain parameters, the length and random length controls are greyed out. Why?
Edit: I’m not asking about the creative decision, but how do I turn them back on if I want?
Never mind. Just figured it out. Can’t adjust grain length & random length if the grainlet function & envelope is turn on via the C screen.
Didn't think you were. The word "touting" has more than one meaning, ie. "attempt to persuade people of the merits of (someone or something)"
By this definition, you've extolled, and/or “touted” the merits of iPulsaret on multiple occasions, and with good reason. It's an excellent synth often overlooked. I'm only just now discovering how lush the sounds can be with this one. Created some new patches myself last night and it's very easy to experiment with to. Much deeper than initially meets the eye as well.
Both great, I use iDensity the most because it's AUv3 but hope we'll get an AU update for iPulsaret one day.
I have them both on desktop too and having multiple Pulsaret is really powerful.
Ooooh! I forgot that he's got his apps on desktop too. Hmmm.... will have to keep an eye out for the next sale for sure.
To answer the original question, I don't think I could pick between the two. My initial response would've been iDensity because that's one of the first iOS apps I bought that I really got excited about. I bought iPulsaret down the line.. mostly because I became a fan of this dev's work and wanted to have all of them, but I never spent much quality time with iPulsaret until now. It's pretty special too.
It's a difficult question. Kinda like asking if you'd pick a shovel over a rake for your landscaping. Really just depends on specifically what you want to do since they're very different tools.
Yeah I got them when on sale, they are a bundle here

I don't use LIVE, so I checked out the standalone ones for Mac. I'm running High Sierra on a Mac and evidently they aren't supported with this OS - "Not compatible with Mac OS High Sierra or later"
