Cubasis Odd Behaviour since last update(?)
I am using Cubasis on my iPad2 (32gb) and recently I have noticed a couple of odd things:
1) When I save a project, the filesize is much larger than I would expect and when I open it in Audio Mastering and look at the Waveform I can see lots of empty space at the end of it (this has happened on 3 different projects now, all created from an empty template. It even happens when I freeze a midi track. Once it has frozen the track length has increased with lots of emptiness (my latest 140 bar tune frozen tracks extended the length to 358 bars!)
2) I used some low key kick drums from my midi keyboard (below C1), triggering the AM Pop kit in Cubasis but when I went to the midi edit screen/piano roll, I could not get the screen to scroll down below C1 to C0 so I had to transpose the track up an octave in order to edit my notes and then transpose it back down again!
Anyone else seen these things?
Comments
No, my drums are fine can edit easily enough. Don't k now about the first bit
@AlterEgo_UK If it is reproducible, sign on to Steinberg's forum and post step by step instructions for repeating the error. It sounds to me like something got messed up in the last update. I am only using a 16Gb device, so this issue is very important to me. :-) I have very little free space! :-)
Here is the link to the forum page:

It's easy to sign up and then you will have access to the Cubasis support techs. I frequent their forum quite often, as do several of us here. :-) I'd definitely like to know what they have to say.
Also, maybe you can create a demo project that demonstrates the problem. That would be really useful as well.
I just did a mixdown and opened it in AudioShare. File size is good and waveform is fine. I'm running an iPad 2 (16gb) with iOS 7.0.3.
I've seen this problem, it may be to do with the 'Keep the effect tail' setting.
Thanks @Ian and @Audiojunkie
Actually I am a member of Steinberg's forum but couldn't remember my User Name or Password! (Sorted now though!)
@PaulB One would think so, but there is no setting for this. It is probably built in with the tails enabled, because I can't imagine that tails would be left out intentionally. However, with a long enough reverb tail, any one of us should be able to confirm if this is where the extra space usage is coming from or not.... The question remains though, why has no one seen this before now? It makes me think something else is going on.....
@Aj...the setting is in the mixdown window..
@commonstookie Ah, so it is! I learned something new! I'm glad I got out of bed this morning after all! :-)
But you have an ipad.can't you do this stuff in bed?:)
@audiojunkie: here is a link to a 4 bar project I created to illustrate that I couldn't scroll/edit a midi drum track below C1 (you may have to unfreeze the track). The exported track is a bit longer than expected, with empty space after the main track (fx trail is on but export region between L and R is off). The empty space gets bigger the longer the main track.

I also posted the link on the Cubasis forum.
@AlterEgo_UK I downloaded and tried the file. I can confirm that the midi track won't let me scroll below C1. However, I noticed that you have AM Pop Kit 2 loaded, and that kit is composed of 16 hits. It appears that when the kit is loaded, only the used notes on the track are available. I suspect that this is not a problem or bug, but is by design to make things easier and more convenient. Try other built-in kits, and I suspect they will respond the same way. Also, try a chromatic instrument, and I suspect you will be able to scroll as you are wanting to with that instrument loaded. I hope this helps! :-)
@Audiojunkie: Thanks for that. Yes AM Pop Kit 2 is loaded, as it was in the project I was originally working on but when triggering the sounds from a midi keyboard there are more sounds below C1 (various pitches of kick drum mainly).
Well tried with Fingered Bass cos I already had it in a project and sure enough I can scroll down to C0 so maybe it is based on the note range that can be triggered within Cubasis itself?
Thanks again
