update coming
Girl tied to the tracks must be a train a-coming...
only if you don't ask for a proper working app...
they still can't provide a stable clock while in loop mode!
Ah, the IAPs aren’t on sale... shame, I probably would’ve swooped the remaining ones! Agree it’s a brill app, not perfect but then nothing is.
I’ve been waiting for this sale for a while. I really wanted Auria Pro to be my “creation environment” but it’s frankly clunky to use and I was getting frustrated with it. I tried Cubasis LE (free with an XKey Air) and didn’t like it at all but then you can’t do much with that version.
Then I bought this at sale price on impulse - and two hours later I am so happy to be back in a workable DAW again (after Logic, that is). I still don’t like how it looks and there are definitely things missing but I can create with it! Sorry, Auria - you are just for mastering now.
Then I go shopping and find that iTunes cards at the supermarket have a 35% discount.
Oh, well. I’ll just have to buy even more synths with the card I couldn’t resist buying...
Aha, am heading out shortly - which supermarket was that (maybe best start with which country lol?)
Hi @Cracklepot. I agree, Cubasis is a terrific recording studio, especially for beginners as it is so very easy to use pretty much out of the virtual box. I was editing tracks without consulting the manual after a few hours of use and I have never used a desktop rig. So, if you don't have it original are disappointed in what you are using you must give Cubasis a shot. It is worth a king's treasure for $25!
Just wondered @Cracklepot which effects packs you recommend and why?
Was my question. Thanks. Would have snapped the machines I think... but awww whatever
I’m in Australia - it was Coles.
Interesting.. I’m using Beatmaker 3 right now but it contains annoying bugs and I find the GUI too small/cramped/dark. It’s not really suited for a portable device like the iPad. I like a more spacious GUI like Caustic.
Before I buy this I have some questions:
@SlowwFloww. Yes! Except for the side chain compression (I think)-and no, there are Inapps that probably deepen the experience but not necessary to the complete DAW experience IMO.
Another question. I downloaded the Cubasis LE 2 demo to try thing out.. I can buy a 'full feature set' IAP for 16,99 euro within LE2. Is this the same as Cubasis 2???
What is the timing like on Cubasis? I see a lot of people having issues with this. To me the most important feature of any DAW is how tight is the timing is.
Must i pay the full price for future updates again or is this version qualified for upcoming updates?
@SlowwFloww I should think so, there is onl CB and CB le on the App Store.17 euro is less than $25 though. You can PM Lars on this forum, the Steinberg rep. He can answer all.
I don’t know if The upgrade is currently on sale, but I do know that it does upgrade it to the full version. It’s what I use. Oh, you have to have LE unlocked with a compatible piece of gear though.
As for your earlier question.
1. It does have bugs everything does, but it’s pretty stable
2. It is complete without the IAPs. I bought one and don’t use it all that often anyway.
3. It has a built in reverb and delay, but I usually use AU effects anyway.
4. I’m under the impression that nothing really does sidechain on iOS yet (maybe BM3 does I don’t know I don’t like side chain stuff)
5. You can turn off quantize
6. No Mix Busses!!!
I have both FX Packs and the Classis Drum Macine Pack. I wil eventually get the Waves Bundle, too. I think the IAP is a good way to support the dev, so I try to buy them when I can.
You don't really need any of the IAPs, but they are fun to have. The FX are geared toward special use cases, but a few are very practical too. If you don't care for old drum machines, then the drum expansion is not very useful. The Waves plugins are very highly regarded, so they actually push Cubasis 2 more toward the "Pro" market. I use FAC Maxima for most of the things I would use the Waves for, but I still will get them when I get the funds and all this cool new stuff coming out is bought and paid for.
Yeah the timing can be tricky to deal with. The loop recording is bugged, as someone mentioned earlier. I loop record in another app (AUM or LoopyHD).
As far as timing issues caused by latency, these can be dealt with in a variety of ways, and are usually caused by using multiple apps and the system OS as well. Latency is a system wide issue, so I don't fault any one app if I have problems.
Honestly, I haven't noticed any major timing issues, except for the loop bug. It can be tricky to sync Cubasis to other apps with no Link or MidiSlave ability, but I think I have that sorted for my purposes.
I loop in other apps. The app works, probably the most stable DAW out of the big 3 (AuriaPro, BM3).
But if you can't handle a little instability in your workflow, you may want to look at something other than iOS for a production environment. iOS is an evolving platform, after all.
Wise words - that’s the bottom line (at the present time)
You can find a stable workflow if you are flexible and willing to compromise, but yes, expect pain.
Very true, indeed!
I think I stick to the PC for a DAW environment at the moment. AUM will keep me happy for now.
The devs confirmed it to be a bug on their end. So why should i look for a non iOS solution? I just expect the devs of a premium priced app to get their act together and get the job done!
edit: All issues i have with Cubasis are dev related (missing or poorly implemented features or confirmed bugs). So i really try hard to show my love but most of the time i get reminded and thrown off by these dev related issues...
Well, because iOS is far from being perfect, or really even ideal. It is convenient and cheap, not "Pro" and to expect perfection from any software is unrealistic.
If you have specific problems with Cubasis 2, then talking to the Devs is really about all you can do. That, or find something else that works for you.
I will stick with Cubasis 2. It is the absolute best DAW on iOS for what I need a DAW for. I am very satisfied when considering all of the things this DAW is capable of doing, and doing them well. It is very easy and comfortable to use. Anything it lacks can usually be accomplished easily with one of the hundred other apps I have available.
And I haven't even mentioned the great upgrades Steinberg releases at fairly regular intervals. Great, major upgrades, every time. They lag a little behind the latest developments on iOS, but that usually means their stuff is very stable when it finally gets released. I think might actually prefer that tactic, considering this is my main DAW. It needs stability, more than poorly implemented cutting-edge features.
Lastly, I have to give props to @LFS, the Steinberg rep that hangs out here answering our questions. He is always helpful and professional, even under fire.
@dermichl Sorry! I didn't mean to rant at you, personally.

I just got on a roll and found I had a lot to say in support for Cubasis 2. It ended up being directed more toward the general reader. I fully respect that you want your stuff to work as stated.
@CracklePot I'm with you! Cubasis is a good one but for a premium price tag i expect the devs to get things ironed out. And to repeat myself: all issues i have with Cubasis are dev related.
I guess the glass might always be half full on this issue for you
@dermichl. You are right about one thing, Cubasis is a premium priced app ($50 for a recording studio that performs teriffically, and $25 on sale.) because it is a premium, full featured product with great interaction on this website. If you had suggested a complete recording studio you could tuck under your arm and go on summer vacation with to me just a few years back I would have said, that must cost a grand (which my Teac four track tape machine cost in 1980 dollars, at least $3000 if tape was all there ever was).
There's always Auria, but I have never seen an Auria rep on this forum in my experience and Auria is talked about with reservations re stability and difficulty.
So, perhaps a little lenience as we take the pot of gold away in our backpacks for $25 smackers
I am absolutely in love going between BM3/Cubasis/Desktop and leveraging as much of their strengths as I can. The big lucky break for me was actually being able to get a freakishly fast fibre connection at home. (Not bragging, just super freaking lucky) and it has revolutionised things for me. Being able to upload 500megs of bounced tracks to dropbox in under a minute... my God. That and Files really have been a workflow breakflow.
