It’s crashed pretty bad once for me so far. I think this will now be the best AU multieffect unit any time the question gets asked again. Wow 100 or so mappable paramaters.
You can still use it as a standalone effect with the x/y pads except you have to do it old school. The ipad is just running that effect and you can run it through an audio interface so ideal with 2 ipads eg. for example you could use the second ipad as the Turnado effects bus.
Or you can use the standalone x/y pad Turnado to control an audio unit Turnado on the same ipad, by sending midi from Standalone Turnado to Audio unit in host.
So it's still possible if you treat the standalone Turnado as a midi controller
Thanks- almost there. So say you have AUM running. Korg Gadget is the generator. New Turnado is the effect taken from the Audio Unit list. And you are recording into Audioshare.
You press play on Gadget and your tune starts looping....... Turnado will do what? Using only your live fingers for assistance.
I’ve updated my non-live air 2 but Pro 10.5 will stay on old and trusted for a while.
What do you think of the new version?
It’s a bit of a CPU hog, so I’m wondering if I’d be able to take advantage of multiple instances anyway. I do like having the pads.
I’ll sit on the fence for a bit, and keep an eye on the feedback in this thread...
It seems waaay easy in CPU. Had a half dozen instances in BM3 and was under 20% with a SynthmasterOne on my 2017 ipad. I don’t think cpu will ever be an issue with it. Knowing how to use so many instances is the challenge heh.
That’s good to hear, maybe the AU version is a bit lighter.
I wonder why the dropped AB support and IAA while keeping it as a standalone....
But the AU version rocks ( tip: inside apeMatrix double tap on the top to maximize it)
They were going through a “phase” when they designed Turnado, Thesys, etc. But on the desktop side Aparillo (...best desktop VI release in years IMO...) as well as Factory are both quite handsome. Obscurium is somehow horrific and spellbindingly gorgeous at the exact same time so I’m mixed on that one.
Love Obscurium ....
Haha I totally feel the same attraction/repulsion with Obscurium.
The AB3 beta adds many things, so when updated it will bring nice goodies
Also it plays nice with AU apps ,so no need of IAA .
The band studio has invested in the SB collection, so I get to muck about with them when I’m there. Had some fun triggering Aparillo via Obscurium, particularly experimenting with the controller settings randomiser.
I do, too. And I hate it. It feels like I’m taking a Lite-Brite to the Prom. I do want to dance, miss. But please paint a simpler picture. At least for this one song.
::::::: As Obscurium is whistling away in the background of my afternoon :::::::::
That sounds awesome quite frankly. I’m going to have to try that out! Aparillo is light years ahead of my visions. Rarely do I find that amount of intense inspiration from a virtual instrument on any platform.
Ha! Very good.
It’s much better than using the internal synth, which is a bit bland. As they’re both SB it automatically maps Aparillo’s parameters, but I like mucking that up via the randomiser. Cyclop works well with it too.
I was curious of the cpu load for 4 instances of unique and 4 of turnado. I used fugue maschine for a sequencer and a quneo preset I made to control 4 instances of turnado with the pads. It ran great.
The biggest hiccups I ran into were, when I open more than one turnado page at the default AUM size it would start to jump in cpu. Also
when I changed the tempo while it was running it crashed all 4 instances of unique. The UI for turnado works great at any size (with a page scroll in AUM). Unique would start to be really slow the smaller I made the windows. Overall it ran great, and with the knobs default to cc 1-8 it's really easy to control externally.
All that on a iPhone 5s !!!! Whaaaaaatttttt!!!!
Oh, wait, no he didn’t tell us what device he’s using. Would be nice to know...
Totally forgot that info, sorry. iPad 10.5 Pro (with the 120 fps turned off) iOS 11.3.1
All good, thanks for the info. Also, thanks to you, I realized that each Turnado instance could resized.
I’m always happy to pay extra for an AUv3 update, but having said that, it’s a wonderful gift to get some of the dozens of apps I’ve purchased as an AUv3. I’ll be experimenting with it a lot more now. I really like modularity, so this is terrific. Also really (and especially) look forward to ToneStack AUv3.
I think when thesys gets converted to Au i can pretty much live inside AUM
Some pictures for fellow AUM users:-
You can blow up the interface quite large.
Also pretty much every control is automatable.
Nice to have this as an AU, in AUM at least. No full UI in Cubasis apparently.
Is there a way to route Rozeta XY to the Turnado effect slot in AUM?
Sure, using AUM’s MIDI CTRL feature you can access effect parameters via their respective channels.
Tap and hold on the controls in Turnado. A little popup will give you the CCs. Fire up Rozeta and setup the corresponding CCs - that’s it
I think it’s #1 to #8 but I cannot check right now...
I literally posted a screenshot of the controls above. It’s definitely 1-8
@AudioGus did you draw in automation in BM3 or was it done in real time? Whenever I try to record automation from the plugin it’s all whacked. All the effect start at like 25% in even if I didn’t touch them while recording.
Thanks. Couldn't get it to work at first, but then I also turned on Rozeta XY as a MIDI Source under that same MIDI CTRL section in AUM and it works. I guess you can also set up Rozeta XY as a MIDI Source under MIDI Route, by routing Rozeta XY Out to MIDI Control. Not all that familiar with the routing in AUM (obviously).
