Just installed iOS 12 beta 6 on my working iPad (2017 9.7” 32GB WiFi)...
And, to be cleared, shouldn’t do the beta thing on my iPad Pro 12.9” 2017 because I think just now (11.41) is working great, with few problem and my core app collection runs great (with a few don’t actually ;-)
But, in all in all I think iOS 12 is fantastic!
Fast UI, supergreat new gestures and overall just better!
I think for the first time in a long time there’s no hesitation to install 12.0 as soon as it get public...
How is the battery usage on 12?
11 is pathetic.
Can't really make an statement there, but it seems to better (just a stomach feeling ;-))
Just wanted to bop in and say that I’ve been using the iOS 12 beta on my primary iPad (1st gen 12.9” Pro) and haven’t had any compatibility issues. And have seen definite performance improvements. Main apps used and tested:
One big improvement I’ve noticed is that I used to hear crackles when I had a huge project going in Auria and would switch apps live while playing to Audiobus or AUM or SunVox or whatever. Haven’t heard any crackles yet, and I’ve done it on a big project hitting 80%+ CPU in Auria. Not saying it’s “fixed”, but it sure seems better.
When I’m making music the battery burns up real fast. The iOS seems a little faster but to be honest I haven’t really notice much difference. It’s one of those things where you forget pretty quick how the previous version was.
How's Studiomux since apple sorted whatever the problem was?
Yep, I was using it last night actually so still working with latest ios12 update. Was using it to record my pianoteq vst into AUM!
Cool! Thanks!
Ahhh, couldn’t resist to install iOS12 (beta 8) on my 2017 iPad Pro 12.9”...
And, it is NOT as smooth as it is on my third iPad (2017 9.7”)... :-(
The new finger gestures to switch apps from left to right (or right to left) is inconsistent on 12.9”, but not on the 9.7”...
This new finger gestures is there always, not as before with four finger gestures swipe up or left/right (that could be shut of in the settings)...
I really hope Apple can find the same fluid behavior on all “modern” models of iPads, because I really love the new app switching when it works!
All in all there’s no hickups in the apps I use everyday on my iPad Pro 12.9’ 2017, so I think we don’t have to worry this fall when upgrading to iOS12...
Do you have RX950 app by Mathieu Demange? It the only app I have that’s not compatible. It crashes once I touch any knob in the GUI. Have already contacted the dev to give him the heads up.
Understand that gestures are different on the iPad under iOS 12. What's your experience?
They are more inline with iphoneX now which I find a lot easier to use anwyay. The main one is just control center access is swiping down from the top right of the screen instead of up from the bottom. Most of the other gestures are the same.
I wish they would implement swiping on the lower portion of the screen to switch apps too, that’s way better the double tapping the home button I find.
It’s there already on iOS12 (swiping in the lower parts of the screen to switch app)!
That's iPhone only though no? On the iPad Pro 10.5 I don't seem to be able to do that.
This isn't the case.
You have to swipe down from the top right to access the control centre but only when on the home screen or app switcher, so instead of just double tap home to access the control centre, you now have to double tap and then swipe.
Also accessing the taskbar so that you can create and overlay or split app view for drag n drop etc is a complete pain, previously you just swiped up and the taskbar floated allowing you to open another app, now when you swipe up it goes to the home page, you have to swipe up and pause and wait, then the taskbar will float, the swipe and pause is extremely hit and miss.
IOS 12 is superior in a lot of ways, but it still have bad niggles like the above all through it.
Has anyone on iOS 12 beta that has TC-11 or TC-Data verified if any of these new gestures interfere with the playability of these apps?
by the way settings is crashing on iOS 12 beta on my ipad pro 9'7 2017. I have informed Apple.
update: this issue resolved with update on 18/08/18
Interesting, as that's not how it's working on my 10.5 Pro right now. I can swipe from the upper right in any app to access control center, I don't have to be on the home screen or app switcher. Maybe that's a setting in the preferences?
It works fine for me too.
I HATE WHEN APPLE IS DOWNLOADING IOS12 BEHIND MY BACK ON MY OLD IPAD AIR2 WITH IOS10.3X (THE LAST 32 BIT OS ON THE IPAD - NEEDED TO RUN ALCHEMY AND A FEW MORE MUSIC APPS THAT IS ABANDONWARE NOW)!!!!
Apple, I don’t want iOS12 on that iPad, OK?
Hard to understand that obviously...
You know there’s apps that can block the Apple update server IP addresses, don’t you?
Yes, even on an iPad with iOS 12, I don’t want them downloading an update against my will as it slows down other tasks. I spent a few hours recently doing some pretty intensive tasks that were just pushed over the edge. I could usually accomplish them, but without my knowledge, an update was downloading in the background. Now it sits there occupying precious space as if I delete it, they will download it again. As the update is mostly phone related and 12 is mostly fine, an update is more risk than reward at this time.
I'm only guessing but streamlining a device that is mostly used vertically with one running mostly horizontally is bound to cause problems.
Can understand that, but, we have 14 different devices in our house, many of them wants updates (iOS & MacOS)...
It only blocks it on the device it’s installed on.
Thanks for this info. My 10.3.3 machine thanks you also.
